Flamingo Trillion just staved off Romantic Laos by a nose after shaking off a mid-race challenge for the front by Awesome Fluke to make it three wins over the Valley 1,800m from his past four starts. He loves the Valley. Punted late Romantic Laos weaved a run late near the inside to make it close on the wire after a wide with cover trip from behind midfield. He has had a very productive campaign. Hameron stayed on well for third after a rail run from midfield. He should find a suitable race to win in this grade next term. Awesome Fluke came up one-paced over the last 100m after rushing forward after a prominent run to challenge for the lead 750m out. It was a decent effort carrying top weight following back-to-back 2,000m wins. Supreme Agility ran on well with two wider out to just miss a top four spot. He is naturally acclimatising and should be winning races next season. Perfect Team made some ground without threatening after biding his time three from the rear. It wasn't a bad effort. Samarkand made some headway late settling second last after getting squeezed out at the start. He had an excuse.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (820) - SWEET ORANGE HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1800Meters

Horse No 2 HAMERON (H265) L Ferraris L Ferraris was fined $2,000 for initially presenting himself to be weighed out with the incorrect saddle cloth number.

After the 200 Metres was bumped by ROMANTIC LAOS which shifted in.

Over the final 100 Metres raced tight to the inside of ROMANTIC LAOS.

Horse No 3 SUPREME AGILITY (J267) Z Purton K C Leung (FLAMINGO TRILLION) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that shortly after the start he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RISING FROM ASHES, resulting in RISING FROM ASHES being taken in and also forcing ROMANTIC LAOS onto SUPREME AGILITY, resulting in SUPREME AGILITY having to be checked and losing its running between ROMANTIC LAOS and AWESOME FLUKE.

Having regard to Jockey Leung holding confirmed riding engagements for the last racemeeting and in accordance with previous practices, he was fined the sum of $35,000 in lieu of a one-day suspension.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record within his last 200 rides.

Horse No 4 RISING FROM ASHES (G209) A Hamelin Crowded shortly after the start.

When questioned, A Hamelin stated that when he was concerned that there may be something amiss with his mount near the 600 Metres, he retired it from the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm and also found it to be a roarer which had previously been reported.

Before being allowed to race again, RISING FROM ASHES will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 5 FLAMINGO TRILLION (H192) K C Leung K C Leung was found guilty of a careless riding charge for causing interference shortly after the start (see SUPREME AGILITY).

K C Leung will be questioned as to whether he used his whip forward of the saddle over the concluding stages.

Horse No 6 PERFECT TEAM (H120) C Y Ho Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 7 ROMANTIC LAOS (G476) H Bowman Crowded shortly after the start.

After improving into a tight run to the inside of FLAMINGO TRILLION near the 100 Metres then lay in and away from that runner for a short distance thereafter, resulting in its rider H Bowman having to correct his mount.

Prior to declaring weighed-in, Jockey H Bowman and Trainer W K Mo viewed the patrol films to ascertain if there were grounds for a protest/objection against FLAMINGO TRILLION being declared the winner in relation to an incident which occurred inside the 100 Metres.

When Jockey Bowman and Trainer Mo declined to lodge a protest/objection and the Stewards were satisfied that there were not grounds to do so, weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.

Horse No 8 SAMARKAND (H070) C L Chau Shortly after the start was checked when crowded between SUPREME AGILITY and ROMANTIC LAOS which was taken in by RISING FROM ASHES which in turn was taken in by FLAMINGO TRILLION (K C Leung).

K C Leung was reprimanded.

Horse No 9 IVY LEAGUE (H116) K De Melo Near the 550 Metres shifted out when being awkwardly placed close to the heels of RISING FROM ASHES which was giving ground, which also resulted in IVY LEAGUE losing ground.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 ROMANTIC CHARM (H227) K Teetan A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
