Race Five : (698) - MAKARPURA STAR HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 DIVANO (J142) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 3 STORM LEGEND (G139) K H Chan After the 1000 Metres commenced to race keenly when being crossed by YUEN LONG ELITE and was steadied away from that runner.
Horse No 4 EMBRACES (J276) C L Chau After the race, C L Chau reported that his intention was to hold a more forward position, but after commencing awkwardly his mount did not show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.
He added in the Home Straight EMBRACES found it difficult to make up any ground.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 5 CIRCUIT MAXIMUS (J347) K C Leung After the 800 Metres commenced to race keenly and was steadied away from STORM LEGEND.
Horse No 7 MASTER MASTERMIND (J024) H Bowman Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 10 SUPER CHARIZZARD (J184) A Badel Jumped only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 11 LUCKY PLANET (H235) H Bentley Jumped awkwardly.
Horse No 12 CALIFORNIA ICON (H404) Y L Chung Raced very wide and without cover from the 800 Metres.
Horse No 13 GANGNAM STAR (H326) M Chadwick When questioned, M Chadwick stated that from the outside barrier his instructions were to ride his mount conservatively in the early stages to avoid having to race wide.
When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, M Chadwick stated that after following BALLISTIC WIN, he was of the opinion that runner had lay out on the Home Turn and may shift out in the Home Straight.
He said for this reason approaching the 400 Metres he initially shifted to the inside of BALLISTIC WIN to obtain clear running, but when that runner was corrected by its rider, he was held up for clear running between the 400 Metres and the 350 Metres.
He added that passing the 350 Metres he was able to shift to the outside of BALLISTIC WIN where GANGNAM STAR commenced to run on well.
He added that over the concluding stages when improving to the outside of BALLISTIC WIN, GANGNAM STAR lay out away from BALLISTIC WIN and as a result was awkwardly placed on the heels of DIVANO and could not be ridden out to the finish of the event.
The Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Chadwick were reasonable in the circumstances.
Horse No 14 TELECOM BULLET (J097) H T Mo Hung out in the middle stages and ran wide making the Home Turn.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Firming favourite Divano won with something in hand after being asked for more 200m out straightening narrowly on top after leading 1,000m out following a tardy start for a second win and third from as many starts. Master Mastermind ran on nicely after a rails run from midfield to just get up for second. It was a good effort in his first start after a nosebleed in February. Parterre kept finding to narrowly hold down third after a pace-stalking run. He relished a return to the level of a win in February. Ballistic Win ran on nicely near the inside to just miss a placing from behind midfield. He has produced mixed results in his five starts. Gangnam Star made good ground late near the inside to just miss the frame after biding his time one from the rear. Yuen Long Elite ran on reasonably well with two wider out after a one-off trip from just worse than midfield. It was a nice debut effort. Lucky Planet failed to lift when asked for more following a box seat run. He was returning off a two-month break but seems to be more effective at the Valley. Embraces never landed a blow after travelling wide with cover four from the rear.
