Recap by phillip woo

Awesome Fluke kept finding after getting his head in front near the 200m after circling the field from near last to prompt the pace 1,200m out for a first win at his ninth start. Eighteen Carat ran on nicely to finish a close second after improving from towards the rear to slot one off with cover travelling midfield at the 1,200m. He relished a step back to the distance of a win two runs ago over the 2,000m. Packing Hurricane came from well back and down the outside to finish a close third. He loves the 2,000m. Plunged late in betting, Samarkand kept on reasonably well after taking off 1,350m out from midfield to lead 1,100m out. It was a positive effort trying the 2,000m for the first time. Winning Dragon kept on all right after chasing the speed on the fence. Turin Mascot stayed on okay after getting flushed three wide without cover from behind midfield mid-race. Illuminous ran on without threatening from the rear of the field. He wasn't suited by the muddle pace. Holy Lake didn't find much in the run to the wire after handing up the lead and settling box seat from the 1,200m. He doesn't get the 2,000m trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (696) - VENGEANCE OF RAIN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 2000Meters

Horse No 1 NATURAL STORM (C461) A Hamelin A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 BOURBONAIRE (E365) H Bowman A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, BOURBONAIRE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 4 PACKING HURRICANE (H137) H Bentley Jumped awkwardly.

Horse No 5 HOLY LAKE (H260) C Y Ho After the race, C Y Ho could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of his mount.

Trainer K W Lui stated that the only explanation he could offer was that HOLY LAKE may have been disadvantaged by being left without cover in the early stages of the event, but nonetheless was disappointed with the performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of HOLY LAKE was considered to be disappointing as compared to its recent starts.

Before being allowed to race again, HOLY LAKE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 6 TURIN MASCOT (H165) K Teetan Was left racing wide and without cover from the 1000 Metres.

Horse No 7 ILLUMINOUS (J170) Z Purton Slow to begin and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Over-raced in the early stages.

After the race, Z Purton stated that his mount was disadvantaged by settling back in the field and was unable to improve from the 550 Metres when positioned behind BOURBONAIRE.

He added that once into clear running in the Home Straight, ILLUMINOUS ran to the line in a one-paced manner, however, found it difficult to make up ground due to the manner in which the race was run.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 SAMARKAND (H070) C L Chau Raced wide and without cover until the 1400 Metres when it was allowed to stride forward when the pace of the event eased.

Horse No 9 AWESOME FLUKE (J050) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 BRAVEHEARTS (H389) L Hewitson When questioned, L Hewitson stated that from the inside barrier he was asked to hold a more forward position, particularly as BRAVEHEARTS had barrier trialed well in this manner on 6 May 2024.

He said after jumping well, when runners to his outside improved in the early stages, he was able to obtain a position on-pace with cover.

When questioned regarding his riding from the 550 Metres and as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the outside of HOLY LAKE, L Hewitson stated that whilst his preference was to obtain this position, he had continuously received a call from Jockey H Bowman, the rider of BOURBONAIRE which was positioned to his outside, and as a result he was unable to shift out as he was concerned he may cause interference.

He added that on straightening he then became disappointed for clear running between BOURBONAIRE and HOLY LAKE when both runners shifted ground slightly and as a result BRAVEHEARTS was held up between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres.

Horse No 11 EIGHTEEN CARAT (J104) A Badel Jumped only fairly and then shortly after the start was crowded between HOLY LAKE and TURIN MASCOT.

After the race, A Badel confirmed that the instructions were to go forward on his mount, but was unable to do so when crowded at the start.

Sent for sampling post-race.
