Recap by phillip woo

Hugh Bowman took the bull by the horns aboard favourite Helene Warrior, taking the three-year-old colt straight to the front and remaining their throughout. It was a strong effort by the Classic Series hopeful, who set a willing early pace before finding enough to hold out Samarkand by half a length. Samarkand doesn't run too many bad races over the extended Valley mile and he got his season off to a promising start here after tracking the leader in the run. After cornering near the back of the field, I Can had to search for a run momentarily before rattling home through traffic to finish third. Setanta finished similarly strongly, surging down the middle of the track to finish two lengths off the winner in fourth. Ivy League belied his $45 quote to make some ground late and grab fifth, while Comet Splendido and Hameron were only fair in sixth and seventh, respectively. Glorious Journey was unable to make much of an impact from the back of the field, finishing eighth, while Galvanic split Helene Warrior and Samarkand in transit before fading badly into ninth.
