Racing Incident Report
Race Seven : (672) - CIRON HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters
Horse No 1 AFFORDABLE (J242) L Hewitson From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 2 GALLANT HERO (E480) B Avdulla Jumped awkwardly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
From the 200 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running and was shifted to the outside of TURIN WARRIOR.
Then lay in when being shifted to the outside of HOLY POWER and as a result was held up for some distance near the 100 Metres.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 3 TURIN WARRIOR (G150) K Teetan Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 DRAGON STAR (H128) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 5 HOLY POWER (H039) A Badel Apprentice E C W Wong (GALLANT CROWN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 1500 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HOLY POWER, resulting in HOLY POWER being checked to avoid the heels of GALLANT CROWN.
Apprentice Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 29 May 204 and to expire on Thursday, 6 June 2024 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays).
In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his poor race riding record.
Over the concluding stages raced tight to the inside of MR ALADDIN and could not be fully ridden out to the finish.
Horse No 6 GALLANT CROWN (D359) E C W Wong Apprentice E C W Wong pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference after the 1500 Metres (see HOLY POWER).
Horse No 7 SETANTA (G095) L Ferraris Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 8 FAMILY FORTUNE (H447) K H Chan In the middle stages raced keenly and near the 900 Metres was steadied away from MR ALADDIN and as a result was obliged to shift three wide where it made contact with RUNNING AHEAD.
Then raced wide and without cover thereafter.
Lay out making the Home Turn.
Horse No 10 RUNNING AHEAD (G313) A Hamelin Jumped only fairly.
Near the 900 Metres was bumped and taken wider by FAMILY FORTUNE and as a result raced keenly for some distance thereafter.

Well-backed Setanta showed a good turn of foot to get up in the closing stages after he was ridden cold from gate seven. It was his third win and first over the Valley 1,650m from 34 starts. He had been knocking on the door in recent runs following stable change. Dragon Star fought back to get the better of long-time leader Gallant Crown for second after a stalking the pace. He is as honest as the day is long. Gallant Crown grudgingly gave way after dictating the run from gate five. The move to the seven-pound claimer nearly worked the oracle. Mr Aladdin ran on steadily after settling one out and one back. He has been racing well without winning. Turin Warrior made some ground near the inside to finish next best after settling on the rail behind midfield. He wasn't smart enough carrying five pounds more following a last-start win. Nice Birdie made some ground without menacing after biding his time four from the rear. It was an OK effort after a win. Holy Power faded after getting all favours in the box seat. He could not back up a last-start fourth.
