Recap by phillip woo

Sweet Diamond took control 150m out after chasing the speed for back-to-back wins over the Valley 1,200m carrying a light weight on his return to Class Four. He is racing very well and can win again. Cosmo Navigator stayed on nicely to nab second after chasing the leader one off the fence from a tricky gate. He is not reliable but has now placed twice from five starts over the Valley 1,200m. Gimme Five ran on well for third after a prominent run along the fence. It was a career-best effort trying the Valley for the first time. Currahee just got the head down for fourth after a handy run. He was able to build on a positive debut effort over the 1,000m at Sha Tin. Sight Hero got going late after travelling three from the rear. He needed a stronger pace. Sensationally backed Super Axiom was stopping 100m out after roaring to the lead from a wide draw 1,050m out. He always struggles to run out a strong 1,200m. Favourite Glory Cloud got going late without threatening after making his run at the rear following a slow start. He cost himself at the jump and requires a faster pace.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five : (670) - THE SAUTERNES CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 SUNNY DARLING (J171) C Y Ho Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 2 SIGHT HERO (D487) L Hewitson Shortly after the start bumped with WINNING HEART.

Horse No 3 CURRAHEE (J204) L Ferraris Leaving the 1100 Metres was bumped by COSMO NAVIGATOR which shifted in and away from SUPER AXIOM despite the efforts of A Hamelin, rider of COSMO NAVIGATOR.

Horse No 4 GLORY CLOUD (H320) H Bowman When questioned, H Bowman stated that his mount was standing awkwardly in the barriers and received some assistance from the starting gate handlers.

He said as the start was effected GLORY CLOUD hesitated and as a result lost ground and settled further back than what had been anticipated.

He added GLORY CLOUD travelled well at the tail of the field and his preference would have been to save ground making the Home Turn by improving to the inside, but was unable to do so and as a result he elected to shift out approaching the 450 Metres to start to improve into the event.

He further stated that in the early part of the Home Straight GLORY CLOUD responded well to his riding, however, near the 100 Metres the horse's run peaked and finished the race off fairly from that point.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, GLORY CLOUD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 WINNING HEART (H065) H Bentley Bumped shortly after the start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 COSMO NAVIGATOR (H156) A Hamelin Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 GIMME FIVE (J099) K Teetan Approaching the 1000 Metres, when racing keenly, was steadied to avoid SWEET DIAMOND (A Badel) which shifted in when not quite clear.

A Badel was advised to exercise more care.

Horse No 9 BRAVO WARRIOR (J088) M L Yeung Jumped awkwardly and lost ground and shortly after the start was steadied when crowded by CURRAHEE which shifted in and away from SWEET DIAMOND.

Horse No 10 MANYTHANKS FOREVER (J065) B Thompson From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 11 SWEET DIAMOND (G063) A Badel Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 MIRACLES (G083) M Chadwick Was a late withdrawal acting on veterinary advice after sustaining an injury to the right front leg after becoming fractious whilst being transported to the racecourse.

Before being allowed to race again, MIRACLES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
