Race Eight: (378)-THE CHINESE NEW YEAR CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 1 - 1400Metres
From the outside barrier, RACING SUPERNOVA was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.SUPER LIFELINE lost its left hind plate approaching the 1200 Metres.
Approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, ALMABABY travelled keenly and got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover behind FLYING MOOCHI.
RACING SUPERNOVA was unable to obtain clear running until passing the 300 Metres.
Near the 250 Metres, DASHING FELLOW became unbalanced after being struck over the nose by the whip of J Moreira (RACING SUPERNOVA).
Passing the 100 Metres, J Moreira dropped his whip.
For the majority of the race, KEY WITNESS travelled wide and without cover.
Z Purton reported that it had been intended for DASHING FELLOW to take up a forward position outside FLYING MOOCHI which was expected to lead.
He said however that DASHING FELLOW was slow to begin and consequently raced further back in the field than had been expected.
INVINCIBLE DRAGON and RACING SUPERNOVA were sent for sampling.

Favourite Invincible Dragon came on strongly after travelling midfield to take control 150m out for back-to-back wins. He might have a bit more improvement to come. Racing Supernova came on well from the tail of the field to finish a clear-cut second in a return to form under Joao Moreira. He's usually honest and will remain competitive sprinting at this level. Thumped late in betting, Flying Moochi held on well for a placing after an uncontested lead despite a rise in class. The featherweight helped. Lucky Year plugged on all right following a one-out, one-back run carrying co-top weight. The 1,200m suits him better. Super Lifeline kept grinding away following a handy run along the fence. He's racing reasonably well but this was a bit too rich. Defending champion Dashing Fellow blew his chance after missing the kick. He can be forgiven for the run. The usually honest Key Witness does struggle at this level.
