This week’s question: “What’s the funniest way to kick off the new year?” To take part, drop us a line via this form or email us at [email protected] by 12pm on Wednesday, January 15. Tell us your name, age and school.

Yonca Shum Kwan-yau, 15, Shatin Tsung Tsin Secondary School: Being chosen for Young Post’s Top 10. Since reading the participation page with readers’ opinions on various topics in Young Post, I have started writing in diaries and making stories. Why? The newspaper caught my attention, and I have sent in answers many times. I have tried to improve my skills and hope one day, I will be able to see my name in the publication. The feeling would be the same as meeting an idol face-to-face, one you really admire.

Brian Lau Pok-ham, 16, SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School: To not be late to school. Living in Tuen Mun, it is hard to arrive at my school, which is in Sha Tin, at a punctual time. Even if I wake up at 6am every morning, I still manage to be late.

Cartik Tsui, 12, Queen’s College: As a Form One student, my goal for the first month of 2025 is to establish a consistent bedtime before 11pm. I have seen how when my older sister stays up late – watching the night turn into day – the bad habit affects her health. She’s been sick for two weeks! I want to prioritise my well-being by developing a healthy sleep routine as a fresh start for the new year. I hope it sticks!

Charlotte Lau Wing-ching, 12, St Paul’s Convent School: To develop a habit of reflecting daily. Reflecting is more than just writing; it’s a journey into understanding your mind and soul. It can help you identify areas for improvement and be a way to celebrate your achievements of the day. By reflecting, I hope to gain a deeper insight into my thoughts, emotions and actions. If I can achieve this goal, I will be able to improve and become the best version of myself in no time.

A 2024 memory we want to forget – and why

Charissa Tsui, 13, St Paul’s Convent School: A goal to complete in January is to participate in at least two competitions. I will actively seek contests in academic areas I am passionate about, like mathematics, technology and English writing like Top 10 in Young Post. This new year will mark the start of stepping out of my comfort zone, not only to create a record of achievements but to expose myself to new concepts and get some practical experience to boost my confidence!

Breanne Kwok Tsz-ching, 11, Maryknoll Convent School (Primary Section): To improve my time management. As I will soon become a secondary school student, I will have to handle more subjects that will also be more difficult. At the same time, I will also need to participate in more extracurricular activities. I must manage my time to balance school and activities with my relationships with friends, family and relatives. To handle everything correctly, I need to level up to prepare for secondary school life.

Elizabeth Leung Lok-sze, 11, Holy Angels Canossian School: I set a goal every month. This January, I have decided to stay calm during emergencies. I am easily scared, especially in crises. As a little kid, I would become nervous, and my mind would go blank when there was trouble. It is called a panic disorder. I had tried many ways to stay calm and collected but could not find a solution; I thought I was broken and unfixable. Then, I discovered that meditation was helpful for me, relieving some of the stress and source of my anxiety. I aim to meditate morning and night to reduce negative thoughts inside my head. After practising, I can talk myself down in an emergency and stay calm enough to find a solution.

Jasmine Chau Tsz-ching, 15, Stewards Pooi Kei College: I plan to revise daily, as I will take the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) exams in 2025. I have room for improvement, but I have faith that revising daily will help me retain information and gain knowledge. I hope for magnificent results and even recognition.

From ‘cooked’ to ‘rizz’, readers share their favourite slang to use over the last year

Kelvin Au Kan-ming, 17, GCCITKD Lau Pak Lok Secondary School: I enjoy One Championship, the world’s most prominent martial arts organisation. In particular, I admire Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon, a world champion Thai professional Muay Thai fighter and kickboxer. His fierce battles not only made me a fan of watching but also inspired me to start practising Muay Thai around February 2024, with the goal of winning a match. After training hard for nine months, my coach encouraged me to sign up for a competition in January 2025. I’m so excited. It’s a great way to showcase my progress, but more than that, controlling my weight to complete the weigh-in ceremony is more demanding than my high-intensity training. It is difficult to keep my body fat low while maintaining muscle and staying hydrated, but I am taking on the challenge and hanging in there to make my dreams come true!

Lam Yuen-ching, 16, GCCITKD Lau Pak Lok Secondary School: I have three goals I want to focus on. The first is to create a schedule to help me get things done more quickly and balance the different parts of my life. This will introduce discipline into my life and help me stay well-rounded. The next goal is to exercise, one of the best ways to stay healthy and avoid issues that come with not being active. Last, to improve my social interaction, which will help build my self-esteem and personal development. This will be useful in the future for job interviews and other challenging tasks.
