Recap by phillip woo

Firming favourite Aeroinvincible just scrambled in for the win after making his own luck in front from gate two for a second course and distance win from nine starts. The change in tactics and return to Sha Tin rewarded punters. Newcomer Markwin ran on very well to finish a close second after getting badly held up for a run until the 200m following a patient ride one from the rear. He should have won and does appear to have a bright future ahead of him. Punted late Gallant Crown stayed on a close third after a pace-stalking run from gate six. He was able to build on an opening day fourth over this trip following a Valley defeat. Alp's Affection plugged on to finish a distant fourth after a box-seat run. It was his best effort from five starts. Solid Win ran on without threatening after biding his time two from the rear. He couldn't back up a last-start second but it's still early days for him. Circuit Fiery made only a mild bid after a one-off trip from better than midfield. It was a better effort at his second start this term.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (80) - PAK TAM AU HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 HARMONY GALAXY (J266) C L Chau Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 AEROINVINCIBLE (J180) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 DREAM PURSUER (G241) M Chadwick Slow to begin.

Lay in for a major part of the Home Straight.

Horse No 4 GOLDEN SAMURAI (H024) C Y Ho After the race, C Y Ho reported that his mount would derive benefit from today's first up performance.

Horse No 6 FLYING LUCK (J339) H Bowman Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 7 MARKWIN (J420) K C Leung From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After passing the 400 Metres was held up for clear running until near the 200 Metres.

After passing the 100 Metres, when finishing off strongly, shifted out to obtain clear running from behind AEROINVINCIBLE and in doing so made contact with GALLANT CROWN.

When questioned, K C Leung explained that he had specific instructions to ride his mount with cover with a view to ensuring MARKWIN could finish the race off strongly.

He said entering the Home Straight near the 400 Metres he was initially endeavouring to try and shift out to obtain clear running between FLYING LUCK and GOLDEN SAMURAI, however, was unable to do so without causing interference to SMASHING EXPRESS in the process as he was not sufficiently clear.

He further stated that after being held up for some distance he made the only other decision available to him which was to shift back in to secure a run to the inside of CIRCUIT FIERY.

He added that he then had difficulty again inside the final 100 Metres obtaining clear running between AEROINVINCIBLE and GALLANT CROWN.

Trainer W K Mo confirmed the pre-race instructions.

The Stewards, having the benefit of considering his explanation and reviewing the patrol films, were satisfied that his explanation for his decision-making in the early part of the Home Straight was reasonable in this instance.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 GALLANT CROWN (D359) K Teetan Jumped very awkwardly and as a result stumbled.

After passing the 100 Metres was bumped by MARKWIN.

Horse No 12 PERFECT PEACH (E488) L Hewitson After the race, L Hewitson could offer no explanation for the horse's performance other than his mount was stepping up in class today.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
