Father’s Day is a special occasion to honour the superheroes in our lives – the dads who play a vital role in shaping our families. Here is how our readers plan to celebrate the day with their beloved paternal role models.

Charis Chan, Malvern College Hong Kong

To make my father feel relaxed and joyous, I have planned to have the rest of my family become “fathers” and do whatever he usually does for us.

My first step will be to create a photo album of him. During all our family trips, my father is always in charge of taking photos. Therefore, I’ve decided to dig through the pictures in my phone gallery, collate the ones with the highest resolution and create an aesthetically pleasing photo album.

Next, I want to organise an outdoor barbecue event with everyone, including my extended family.

Since my father often prepares and grills food during barbecues, I would like to have an outdoor barbecue on Father’s Day where he doesn’t grill at all. All he needs to do is enjoy the food, the people, and the scenery surrounding him.

My dad is frustrated by my social anxiety – what should I do?

After that, I want to make dinner for him and my sister. Whenever a family member has a birthday, my father often treats us to a delicious meal, such as a buffet or a fancy dining experience.

Since I don’t have the money to treat him outside, I would like to make my father’s favourite foods for dinner, such as seafood, steak, soup and more.

After all, I believe the most important thing is not to give our fathers the fanciest or wildest gifts we can think of but to do something our fathers will love.

I want to do my best to show him that I appreciate all the efforts that he has put in to shape me into the person I am today.

This year’s Father’s Day is in the midst of my examinations, so I have decided to keep things simple. However, I still want to convey my unwavering love to my hero, who has supported me through my ups and downs.

I want to prepare heart-shaped omelettes with tomatoes, Brie cheese, mushrooms, ham, peas, and spinach. Making omelettes is a great way to apply the skills I learned in home economics class. I can create a delicious and nutritious meal for my dad by following a simple recipe.

In addition to cooking a special meal, I will present my dad with a thoughtful and personalised gift showing I care. I have been sewing a toy for my dad, which took me some time to complete. It is a small cyan dinosaur made from fabric, and it gives me a sense of accomplishment.

Since kindergarten, my father and I have shared a special bond over our love of dinosaurs and imaginary creatures. We would watch movies together and let our imaginations run wild.

With this particular memory in mind, I am sure my dad will be touched by the thought and effort of making this special gift. I want to show him I am grateful for his guidance and support by presenting him with this toy.
