By uncovering the city’s hidden treasures, participants gained a deeper appreciation of its remarkable heritage, innovative spirit, and commitment to sustainability.
Tailored specifically for junior secondary students, the second Macau Unlocked tour captivated participants with an array of unforgettable experiences. The MGTO’s meticulous preparations ensured seamless arrangements and many stand-out moments, including a visit to the iconic Macau Tower. Students ascending to the observation deck were greeted with a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city, revealing Macau’s architectural wonders and its natural beauty.
From this vantage point, it was possible to see stunning examples of human ingenuity and architectural ambition in the built environment, as well as the beauty of the local landscape and surrounding seas. When gazing down, students were enthralled by the spectacle of adventurous thrill-seekers bungee jumping from an almost unbelievable height. It was a sight that only added to the general sense of excitement and adrenaline.
Another exciting stop was at the Macau Science Centre, a hub of innovation and sustainability. Students were able to explore the awe-inspiring Astronomy Gallery – Stargazer, which takes visitors on a journey through the history of astronomical observation. Divided into sections such as “The Age of Reason”, “The Distant Horizon”, and “The Stars and Me”, the various exhibits blend art, technology, and fantastic light and shadow effects to provide a truly immersive experience.
Spending time at the science centre allowed students to learn more about the stories and secrets of the night sky and see how clues left by stargazers from different eras have helped unlock the mysteries of the universe. The Astronomy Gallery undoubtedly left an indelible impression, sparking a sense of wonder and curiosity to know even more.
Carefully designed to take in as much as possible, the tour was also a chance to delve into Macau’s rich cultural heritage with a visit to the Ruins of Saint Paul’s, a Unesco World Heritage site.
Wandering through this historical enclave is almost like stepping back in time, and students were captivated by past centuries’ sights and stories.
The Macau Museum, Mont Fort, in the S. Lazaro neighbourhood, and Tap Siec Square offered many glimpses and reminders of the city’s vibrant history. These landmarks, with their distinct architectural styles, also fostered a deeper appreciation of the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
Of course, no trip to Macau would be complete without indulging in its culinary delights. Students stopped for a meal at the renowned Litoral restaurant, where they had the chance to savour the best of local cuisine, a mouthwatering fusion of Chinese and Portuguese flavours. This sensory feast tantalised the taste buds and reflected the diverse influences that created Macau’s unique identity.
Throughout the tour, students stored impressions and memories that will last a lifetime and saw how Macau combines sustainability with culture, action and entertainment.
This journey left participants with a broader understanding, renewed curiosity, and a strong desire to share their experiences with others.
