Our latest Write to Win champion: Kaden Yip, 13, from Sha Tin College
In February, my mother told me about a cousin who participated in a Young Post competition – Write to Win. My curiosity arose, and I went to their website to discover they were accepting sign-ups. I felt I had nothing to lose, so I joined the competition.
At that time, I had never thought about winning, but now I have done it. Winning feels surreal, and I’m grateful for every audience member’s support. It feels like a dream come true that my writing abilities and skills have been recognised.
Write to Win sharpened my critical thinking and creativity ability. Interesting topics such as unsolved mysteries were thought-provoking and reminded me that our world has problems. It is also essential to be aware that it is our generation’s job to solve them.
During the process of this contest, I learned to write from the heart. Some of my articles may have been more touching than others, and I believe it is because I wrote genuinely and passionately. Writing has always been a hobby for me, and I am lucky to have gained a supportive audience through Write to Win.
Time management was definitely a significant challenge while participating in the competition. I remember arriving at my hotel at 11pm after an eight-hour flight. The first thing I did was draft my article, as time was not on my side. Looking back, I probably should not have left everything to the last minute. However, there is a chance that the spur-of-the-moment thinking became one of the articles that audience members resonated with.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported me. This journey has been long, but it has finally come to an end. It is all thanks to the audience that I have emerged victorious. I would also like to thank my school, Sha Tin College, my family members and close friends who have shown me unwavering support. Good luck to the next contestants of Write to Win – it is not easy, but I’m sure you will do just fine.
