Bank of China Hong Kong unveils AI chatbot to foster love of Tang dynasty poetry
Era is known as the golden age of Chinese literature; application allows users to create personalised poems in the traditional style.
In celebration of the 75th anniversary of National Day, Bank of China Hong Kong has unveiled the “Tang Shizun” artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, designed to foster a love for Tang dynasty poetry.
The Tang dynasty (618–907) is known as the golden age of Chinese literature. Its poems typically have eight lines of five or seven syllables each, following strict tonal patterns and parallel structures in the second and third couplets.
With the AI-driven application, users can experiment with these poetic forms by inputting keywords in Chinese and selecting a mood. The chatbot then crafts personalised poems in the traditional Tang style.
The best submissions will have the opportunity to be displayed on screens within the exhibition area of the Bank of China Tower in Central.

The exhibition showcased life during the Tang dynasty, blending modern technology with traditional Chinese art to portray its vibrant lifestyle through various perspectives.
While the exhibition ended on October 25, the “Tang Shizun” chatbot remains active, helping users deepen their appreciation of Chinese culture and Tang poetry.
