This season’s Student of the Year awards have finally ended, with Dylan Robinson of German Swiss International School taking the title. Katrina Liu Tin-nam of Diocesan Girls’ School (DGS) was first runner-up while Benjamin Chan of St Joseph’s College was second runner-up.

This year’s awards were hampered by Covid-19, with students having to do their interviews with judges through online video conferencing.

Students in the Performing Artist category had to record their performances, with Diocesan Girls’ School’s pianist Sherri Lun Hoi-ching taking the top prize. Cellist Cheung Hei-man of Belilios Public School was first runner-up, followed by dancer Raymond Chan Pak-tsun of Concordia Lutheran School.

Visual artists had to hold up their creations or find other ways to get their message across. West Island School’s Samuel Scroggie took the top spot, with Ho Dao College (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen)’s Shum Hoi-yiu the first runner-up, and Ewan Windebank from Rosaryhill Secondary School the second runner-up.

Fencer Sophia Wu from Heep Yunn School took the title in the Sportsperson of the Year award. Leung Wing-hei of DGS snagged first runner-up for her performance in athletics. Table tennis star Pedrey Ng Wing-lam from St Paul’s Co-Educational College claimed the second runner-up spot.

Vanessa Yu Sze-wai of St Paul’s Convent School (Secondary Section) won the Scientist and Mathematician category. Genper Wong Chi-ngai of St Paul’s Co-Educational College was first runner-up and Li Yung-chi from Diocesan Boys’ School (DBS) was second runner-up.

Sherri Lun Hoi-ching of Diocesan Girls’ School took top prize in the Performing Arts category.

The Linguist of the Year award was divided into three categories. Oliver Lai Ching-kei of La Salle College took top spot in the English category, with Scarlet Poon Lok-ching of St Rose of Lima’s College claiming first runner-up, followed by Serena Yu Sheung-wing from St Mary’s Canossian College.

Charlie Lin Kai-chun of Bishop Hall Jubilee School grabbed the top spot in the Cantonese category. Stephanie Ko Ching of DGS was first runner-up and Mary May Man-ho of Belilios Public School second runnerup.

DGS’ Cai Ruizhe earned the top prize in the Putonghua category. St Margaret’s Co-educational English Secondary & Primary School’ Mi Haoyue and Adina Pang Joo-lan were first and second runner-up, respectively.

“Trust the process,” says former community contributor winner

Amy Tsai Hiu-ching of Shau Kei Wan Government Secondary School was top of the Community Contributors, with Brian Ng Chun-yin of DBS taking first runner-up, and Tam Cho-yi of St Joseph’s Anglo-Chinese School claiming second runner-up.

The top five students in the Best Devotion to School category were Justine Chan Tin-nok of Singapore International School (Hong Kong), Leung Tim-yi of The Chinese Foundation Secondary School, Wong Hoi-ching of King Ling College, Wong Man-kit of Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College, and Wong Tsz-wai of Belilios Public School.

The top five students in the Best Improvement category were Chan Tsz-kiu of Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College, Kao Tsz-kin of Aberdeen Technical School, Mary To Nga-man of Buddhist Wong Wan Tin College, Chloe Yeung Choi-yee of St Margaret’s Co-educational English Secondary & Primary School, and Raymond Yeung Tsz-hang of The Hong Kong Sea School.
