Sony's new PlayStation 5 console is coming in November and will play 99 per cent of PS4 games.

PlayStation fans got a bit of mixed news about backwards compatibility for PS5 in the wake of the recent release and pricing news. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has confirmed that 99 per cent of PS4 games will work on the next-gen console.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Ryan also revealed that subscribers to the premium PlayStation Plus service (which is required for online play and gifts users with two free games each month) will receive a bonus if they purchase the PS5 in the form of the Plus Collection.

The Plus Collection will be free to download and playable at launch. It includes some of the best games of the previous generation, including God of War , Uncharted 4, Bloodborne and Resident Evil 7. Here is the full list of confirmed free games so far.

  • God of War
  • Bloodborne
  • Persona 5
  • Resident Evil 7
  • The Last of Us Remastered
  • Monster Hunter World
  • The Last Guardian
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Battlefield 1
  • Mortal Kombat X
  • Days Gone
  • Final Fantasy XV
  • Fallout 4
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
  • Ratchet & Clank
  • Until Dawn
  • Infamous: Second Son

Unfortunately along with this good news is the disappointing news that PS3 and older generation PlayStation games will not work at all on the next-gen PS5. That means no spirited sessions of the original Metal Gear Solid, but at least you’ll have the remastered Demon’s Souls.
