Recap by phillip woo

Punted late, One For All rolled to the lead and kept finding when challenged by favourite Lean Master for a fourth win over the Valley 1,200m and first from six outings this season. He was able to build on an improved effort last start. Lean Master just held on for second after handing up the early lead to travel in the box seat. It was another good run following a win. Sight Hero came up a stride short for second after making his run one off the rail in midfield. He is always a chance over this Valley trip. Jolly Companion stayed on a distant fourth after rolling forward to track the leader 800m out from a tricky gate. He was able to back up a similar result last start at Sha Tin. Denfield left things too late but was motoring late to finish next best ridden third last from gate nine. He should find his mark shortly in this grade. Tattenham ran on without threatening after biding his time four from the rear. He will be a force to reckoned with shortly in Class Five. Punted late, Run Run Cool had his chance after a handy run on the fence but just plodded when push came to shove.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (776) - NG TUNG RIVER HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 DENFIELD (G471) H Bowman From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

When questioned, H Bowman stated that his instructions from a wide barrier were to ride his mount conservatively in the early stages.

He said DENFIELD travelled satisfactorily in the early stages but from the 600 Metres he became concerned with his mount's action, particularly when leading on its right leg.

He said for this reason after entering the Home Straight he was reluctant to place his mount under full pressure as he continued to have concerns with its action until DENFIELD changed stride near the 250 Metres.

He said once balanced he then commenced to ride his mount out fully to the end of the race.

He added however he did not use the whip on DENFIELD as he felt his mount was responding strongly to his hand and heels riding.

H Bowman was reminded of his obligation under Rule 105 to report to the Stewards immediately following the race any condition which may affect the performance of his horse during the running of a race.

Trainer C S Shum confirmed the instructions issued and also confirmed that immediately after the race Jockey Bowman had expressed concern in relation to the horse's action during the running of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The Stewards determined that DENFIELD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments before being allowed to race again.

Horse No 2 LEAN MASTER (H134) E C W Wong When questioned, Apprentice E C W Wong stated that his instructions were to endeavour to lead the event if possible.

He said his mount jumped only fairly and when ONE FOR ALL showed superior pace to his mount in the early stages, he elected to allow that runner to cross as he was of the opinion if he contested the lead, the pace would be too fast.

He added after being crossed by ONE FOR ALL, LEAN MASTER commenced to race keenly which it continued to do throughout the middle stages.

He said making the first turn he was reluctant to shift to the outside of ONE FOR ALL and race outside the lead as he was content to maintain his cover to endeavour to prevent it from racing too keenly in the middle stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 ONE FOR ALL (G012) L Ferraris Bumped at the start.
