Recap by phillip woo

Late-fancied Comet Splendido quickened nicely for consecutive wins win going away 80m out after settling in second last about 18 lengths off the pace. Kyrus Unicorn ran on nicely near the inside to grab second on the fence. He can produce a good run now. Sure Joyful ran on steadily for third after settling one off the fence in midfield. It was another honest effort over this Valley trip. Red Majesty ran on well but just missed a placing after biding his time one off the rail behind midfield. He rarely produces a bad run over the Valley 1,650m. Great Achiever peaked on his run 50m out after looming at least a place chance from the rear of the field. It wasn't a bad effort trying the Valley 1,650m for the first time and he should find his mark shortly. Sixth Generation ran on without threatening after making his run three from the rear. It was a disappointing effort on face value in a race run to suit. Favourite Storm Legend had his chance after settling on the rail in midfield. Golden Luck gave himself no hope after setting genuine fractions and crossing to lead 1,300m out from gate 12.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (775) - BEAS RIVER HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 COMET SPLENDIDO (G071) Z Purton After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on COMET SPLENDIDO at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, COMET SPLENDIDO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 RED MAJESTY (E028) H Bowman Near the 100 Metres the whip of H Bowman was knocked from his grasp by the whip of M Chadwick, the rider of SUPER EAGLE.

Horse No 3 SIXTH GENERATION (G120) C Y Ho A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 GOLDEN LUCK (H159) L Hewitson When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages and in particular the fast pace set, L Hewitson stated that his instructions were to hold a forward position and either lead or obtain cover if circumstances permitted.

He said in the early stages when positioned to the outside of CORDYCEPS ONE, he was unable to obtain cover as he was positioned in advance of that horse and for this reason he elected to ride his mount forward to cross runners to his inside.

He added as a consequence he was obliged to make use of his mount to cross those runners which resulted in a fast pace being set.

He said after obtaining a position in advance and to the outside of SUPER BABY, he then continued to ride his mount forward to cross that runner as he was of the opinion that SUPER BABY would not contest the lead.

Trainer K L Man confirmed that the instructions were to take up a forward position.

After considering his explanation, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Hewitson were reasonable in the circumstances.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 STORM LEGEND (G139) E C W Wong Jumped only fairly.

After the race, Apprentice E C W Wong stated that after bumping with the running rail near the 600 Metres when racing to the inside of SURE JOYFUL, his mount then finished the race off in a one-paced manner in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 PATCH OF TIME (H483) K Teetan As the start was effected reared and as a consequence lost ground.

A warning was placed on the barrier manners of the horse and it will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test before being allowed to race again.

After the race, K Teetan stated that his mount settled further back in the field after rearing at the start and losing ground.

He said PATCH OF TIME, which was having its first race start at Happy Valley, did not appreciated racing around the Happy Valley circuit but was still somewhat disappointing.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
