Recap by phillip woo

Setanta showed a good turn of foot to overhaul I Can 60m out after a patient ride one from the rear for a second win and two placings from his past six starts following a stable change. He is an improved runner and should remain competitive up in grade off a light weight. I Can found one too good after sustaining his move four wide from just worse than midfield to lead 200m out. It was another solid effort despite gate 11 over the Valley 1,650m. Can't Go Wong kept on well for third without threatening the top two after a prominent run with cover from the 700m. He has run well to fill the frame in his past six starts after a win in March. Not A Few came on nicely to spice up the quartet after making his run two from the rear. It was his best effort from 10 local starts. Atomic Beauty came up one-paced after a handy run wide without cover from gate 12. It was another honest effort. The Khan weakened after dictating the run from gate eight. He should find his mark soon in Class Five. Star Line was retreating when asked for more soon after straightening following a speed-tracking run on the fence.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five : (777) - THE PEARCE MEMORIAL CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 I CAN (H381) A Atzeni Shortly after the stat was steadied when crowded between HARRY'S HERO and ATOMIC BEAUTY which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider B Avdulla.

Was left racing wide and without cover from the 900 Metres and then was allowed to stride forward near the 700 Metres but continued to race without cover.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 SETANTA (G095) L Ferraris Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 ATOMIC BEAUTY (H066) B Avdulla Shifted in shortly after the start and was bumped on the hindquarters.

Raced wide and without cover in the early stages.

Momentarily held up making the Home Turn.

Horse No 5 CAN'T GO WONG (H087) K Teetan Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 TOGEPI (G458) L Hewitson Near the 150 Metres became held up for clear running behind ATOMIC BEAUTY and did not obtain clear running until near the 50 Metres.

Horse No 7 FAST VICTORY (H393) C L Chau Making the Home Turn was steadied when crowded by STAR LINE (K De Melo) which shifted in and away from I CAN.

K De Melo was severely reprimanded and advised he must make a greater effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in future.

Over the final 100 Metres could not be fully ridden out when positioned behind THE KHAN which was giving ground.

After the race, C L Chau reported that after being crowded on the Home Turn his mount responded only fairly to his riding in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 TIGER AND GOLD (J064) B Thompson Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 10 AMAZING BOY (D513) M Chadwick Jumped only fairly.

After the race, M Chadwick reported that his mount would appreciate a surface with more give in it.

Horse No 11 HARRY'S HERO (H332) A Hamelin For some distance in the early stages raced tight between NOT A FEW and I CAN which was taken in by ATOMIC BEAUTY (B Avdulla).

Near the 1500 Metres HARRY'S HERO was then steadied when ATOMIC BEAUTY continued to shift in.

B Avdulla was reprimanded.

Near the 350 Metres A Hamelin dropped his whip.

As the was the third occasion this season that A Hamelin had dropped his whip, he was issued with a final warning.

After the event, A Hamelin reported that his mount raced ungenerously throughout the race.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 THE KHAN (H489) A Badel After the race, A Badel stated that he was given no specific instructions.

He said his mount jumped well and as a result he elected to ride THE KHAN forward to lead the event when no other runner was showing the intent to hold the lead.

Trainer C Fownes advised that whilst he had given Jockey Badel the option to take up a more forward position, he had not expected THE KHAN to lead the event.

He added, in his opinion, THE KHAN was not suited by racing keenly in the lead which resulted in it giving ground in the Home Straight.
