Race Two : (533) - MA TAU WAI HANDICAP - Class 4 - 2200Meters
Horse No 3 PRECISE EXPRESS (D198) A Atzeni In the early stages got its head up when being shifted across behind runners and raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
Horse No 4 REACH GOAL (G067) H Bentley Slow to begin.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 5 SHARPEN BRIGHT (H276) K Teetan Near the 650 Metres was awkwardly placed on the heels of PALACE PAL when that runner shifted out to start a forward move.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 WINNING STEPS (G420) M F Poon From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Lay in in the Home Straight.
Horse No 7 LITTLE FAIRY (H206) A Hamelin Jumped awkwardly.
Raced wide and without cover until near the 1200 Metres when it was allowed to stride forward and race outside the lead.
Horse No 8 PALACE PAL (G172) Z Purton Near the 550 Metres RUNNING AHEAD was taken out slightly when LITTLE FAIRY shifted out to improve.
As a result, PALACE PAL was then racing in restricted room between RUNNING AHEAD and REACH GOAL (H Bentley).
A short distance later, REACH GOAL then lay in, crowding the running of PALACE PAL, resulting in PALACE PAL having to be checked.
On all the available evidence, the Stewards found that a severe reprimand should be issued to H Bentley in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in.
However, the Stewards were mindful of the contribution of runners to the inside, initially placing PALACE PAL in restricted room.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 9 RUNNING AHEAD (G313) C L Chau Leaving the 300 Metres was eased to avoid PEGASUS GENERAL (H Bowman) which shifted out when not quite clear.
H Bowman was advised to exercise more care.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 10 JUBILATION (G029) M L Yeung After the race, M L Yeung reported that from a wide barrier he was requested to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages.
Trainer W Y So confirmed the instructions issued.

Horse No 11 SUNNY BABY (E166) L Hewitson After the race, L Hewitson advised that he was requested to take up a forward position on his mount to take advantage of its light weight in the event.
Horse No 12 FLYING SILVER (E478) B Avdulla Had difficulty obtaining clear running on the Home Turn and leaving the 200 Metres was briefly held up behind PRECISE EXPRESS before shifting to that runner's inside to obtain clear running.
Then raced tight to the inside of PRECISE EXPRESS over the final 100 Metres.
Horse No WONDER YEARS (G001) K De Melo Withdrawn on 25.3.24 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter REACH GOAL.
Before being allowed to race again, WONDER YEARS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After settling five back and one off the fence, early favourite Sharpen Bright ran on nicely to overhaul Reach Goal in the dying stages for a first win at his ninth start. Following a tardy start, Reach Goal travelled towards the rear and made a mid-race move but just found one too good. He was able to back up a last-start second over the Sha Tin 1,800m. Winning Steps ran on nicely to snatch third after biding his time two from the rear. He tends to mix his form but was stepping out off a low rating. Precise Express ran on steadily for fourth after settling on the rail behind midfield. It was a better run on his recent form rated three points below a win earlier in the term. Pegasus General made a mild bid from midfield. He prefers the 1,800m. Flying Silver made some ground without threatening from towards the rear. He's looking forward to a downgrade. Romantic Fantasy was on his tippy toes 100m out after turning the final bend a length on top. He got too much pressure early on. Post-time favourite Palace Pal travelled one off the fence and made a mild late bid after getting carved up 450m out.
