Race Five : (319) - CHOI YUEN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1000Meters
Horse No 1 FLYING HIGH (E204) M Chadwick Near the 150 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when positioned behind CHEVAL VALIANT and after obtaining a run to the inside of CHEVAL VALIANT near the 100 Metres was accidentally struck across its head by the whip of Apprentice Y L Chung, the rider of CHEVAL VALIANT.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 2 O'LINER (H264) H Bowman Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 3 PLEASANT ENDEAVOR (E114) E C W Wong Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 SPARKLING KNIGHT (C201) A Hamelin After the race, A Hamelin could offer no explanation for his mount's disappointing performance.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 5 RUN RUN COOL (E322) H Bentley Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 6 NORTHERN BEACHES (H266) L Hewitson Approaching the 100 Metres was steadied when crowded between PLEASANT ENDEAVOR and FLYING HIGH (M Chadwick) which shifted to the inside of CHEVAL VALIANT to secure clear running.
M Chadwick was reprimanded and advised he must ensure that there is sufficient room when improving into runs.
Noted to have lost its right front plate after the race.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 9 CALIFORNIA TOUCH (J051) C Y Ho After the race, C Y Ho could offer no explanation for his mount's disappointing performance.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 10 CHEVAL VALIANT (E336) Y L Chung Near the 100 Metres Apprentice Y L Chung had difficulty using his whip for a number of strides when positioned close to FLYING HIGH.
Horse No 11 KYRUS DRAGON (H396) A Badel Made contact with the left side of its barrier and lost ground on jumping.
Horse No 8 SUMMIT CHEERS (E221) B Avdulla Withdrawn on 6.1.24 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (heart irregularity).
Before being allowed to race again, SUMMIT CHEERS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Pleasant Endeavor kept on gamely after finding the front 60m out following a speed-tracking run for a sixth career win and fourth over the straight 1,000m. He has been struggling more than not this campaign but the move to 10-pound claimer Ellis Wong worked the oracle. Punted late Flying High ran on nicely for second travelling midfield on the stands side. He's a winner waiting to happen. Cheval Valiant held on well for third after occupying his usual role up front from gate 10. It was a better run. O'Liner just got up to win a blanket finish for fourth from behind midfield. It was an okay effort trying the straight 1,000m for the first time. Brown-lamped in betting, Nicconi County came from last on the far side to nearly fill the frame. It was a good run following a ligament injury. Kyrus Dragon ran on all right settling second last after a slow start. He's shown flashes of ability in each of his four local runs. Northern Beaches was only plodding when impeded late following a prominent run. He couldn't back up a last start win. California Touch faded after handy run near far side from low draw.
