Recap by phillip woo

D Star sustained an early move from behind midfield to lead 500m out, straightened a length on top and edged clear to land a betting move. The return to the Valley and step up to 1,650m worked the oracle. Strongest Boy ran on nicely with one wider out to just take second after of Palace Pal after a one-off run from midfield on the fence. It was a good first effort at the Valley after filling the frame in two of three prior starts. Palace Pal weaved a run late to just miss the quinella spot after a patient ride second last from gate 12. It was his best effort of the season after fourths in three of four prior starts, but he was suited by the race tempo. Superb Move stayed on well to fill the frame from midfield. He should be able to get away with a race next season in Class Five. Master Tornado came up one paced after a one-out, one-back run. He finished best of those on the speed and should find his mark shortly in the grade. Plunged late, Kungfumaster Panda was never a threat from towards the rear. Favourite Beau Gosse was a non factor after getting posted wide early on before over-racing one off from midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (802) - MORSE PARK HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Whilst parading behind the barriers, it was noted that TO INFINITY had lost its right front plate.

This plate was refitted.

TO INFINITY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

BEAU GOSSE jumped only fairly and then was badly crowded for room between LUCKY BANNER and TO INFINITY which was taken out by SUPER BABY.

On jumping, MASTER TORNADO was bumped by UNITED ENDEAVORS, resulting in MASTER TORNADO shifting in and crowding STRONGEST BOY which had jumped only fairly.

From a wide barrier, KUNGFUMASTER PANDA was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

From the outside barrier, PALACE PAL was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Near the 1400 Metres, LUCKY BANNER was steadied when crossed by MASTER TORNADO which was taken in by SKYEY SUPREME (Apprentice Y L Chung).

Apprentice Chung was advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.

After travelling a short distance, BEAU GOSSE raced tight to the inside of D STAR and as a result shifted in and made contact with TO INFINITY.

BEAU GOSSE then over-raced throughout the early stages and passing the 1200 Metres got its head up when it shifted out across UNITED ENDEAVORS.

Approaching the 600 Metres, D STAR commenced a forward move around the field.

A short distance later, UNITED ENDEAVORS (H Bentley) shifted to the outside of MASTER TORNADO, resulting in BEAU GOSSE being briefly crowded.

Shortly after, UNITED ENDEAVORS was then steadied when crowded between D STAR (H Bowman) which shifted in slightly and MASTER TORNADO (K Teetan) which shifted to the outside of LUCKY BANNER in an attempt to improve.

H Bentley, H Bowman and K Teetan were all advised in similar circumstances to exercise more care.

Near the 300 Metres, LUCKY BANNER was steadied when crowded by MASTER TORNADO which shifted in when laying in.

Whilst the Stewards accepted that K Teetan had endeavoured to straighten his mount, he was reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances he should attempt to straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.

LUCKY BANNER then lay in in the Straight and near the 150 Metres shifted in and hampered KUNGFUMASTER PANDA.

Approaching the 250 Metres, SUPERB MOVE shifted out and brushed UNITED ENDEAVORS, resulting in UNITED ENDEAVORS then shifting out and TO INFINITY being steadied when briefly crowded between STRONGEST BOY and UNITED ENDEAVORS.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BEAU GOSSE, L Hewitson stated that his mount raced ungenerously throughout the event and was reluctant to race amongst other horses.

He said when taken wider on the Home Turn, BEAU GOSSE lost concentration and failed to finish the race off from that point on.

He added, in his opinion, BEAU GOSSE is still somewhat immature, particularly in circumstances where it is obliged to race amongst other horses.

A veterinary inspection of BEAU GOSSE immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration to the left front leg.

The performance of BEAU GOSSE, favourite for tonight's event, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, BEAU GOSSE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When questioned regarding the performance of UNITED ENDEAVORS, H Bentley stated that when the pace steadied in the middle stages, he was disadvantaged when unable to improve at the 600 Metres.

He added that UNITED ENDEAVORS was unsuited thereafter when the race developed into a sprint home.

A veterinary inspection of UNITED ENDEAVORS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of TO INFINITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BEAU GOSSE, D STAR and STRONGEST BOY were sent for sampling.
