Debutant Sam's Love settled fourth from the rear after jumping tardily from a wide gate, barged his way into the open 300m out and finished strongly to run down the raging favourite Fantastic Eight for 50m out. He's appears a runner with scope and will get a longer trip in time. Fantastic Eight still finished a clear second after being pressured to his outside by Master Viking following a quick start. He's open to further improvement with only two runs under his belt. Hurricane Hunter came with a bold run after making his run outside and behind the eventual winner to grab second in the final few metres. He's shown ability in his two starts but may be better suited over the 1,400m. Veteran Master Viking kept on all right after stalking the speed. He's shown a bit more spark in his past couple but is more effective at the Valley. Unleashed Dragon had no excuse following a handy run along the paint. He'll need to fall lower in the handicaps. Punted late Winning Vibe made some ground from the rear without menacing. He might be eyeing a brief stint in Class Five.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (535)-CASTLE PEAK BAY HANDICAP (Sec1) - Class 4 - 1200Metres

TRILLION TREASURE began awkwardly, subsequently travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

A veterinary inspection of TRILLION TREASURE immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg.

The performance of TRILLION TREASURE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, TRILLION TREASURE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

CROWN AVENUE lost its right front plate shortly after the start.

Shortly after the start, SAM'S LOVE was crowded for room between LE PANACHE and HURRICANE HUNTER, both of which shifted ground.

After this, from a wide barrier, SAM'S LOVE was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

When being steadied to be taken across behind runners, WINNING VIBE shifted in shortly after the start and bumped CROWN AVENUE.

LE PANACHE lost its right front plate at the 600 Metres.

J Moreira (SAM'S LOVE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he directed his mount to the outside of DASHING POWER when not clear of REGENCY HONEY, resulting in SAM'S LOVE bumping REGENCY HONEY, causing that horse to be hampered and to become unbalanced.

J Moreira was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 12 April 2017 and to expire on Tuesday, 18 April 2017 on which day he may resume race riding.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Moreira's good race riding record.

Passing the 200 Metres, REGENCY HONEY raced in restricted room between HURRICANE HUNTER and DIAMOND LEGEND which shifted in before being directed back out to relieve the tightening to REGENCY HONEY.

SAM'S LOVE and FANTASTIC EIGHT were sent for sampling.
