Recap by phillip woo
Ambitious Champion sat outside the leader Basic Trilogy from a tricky gate, poked his head in front 400m out, opened up by nearly two lengths at the 200m and held off the late surge of Anticipation for a fourth win from 26 starts. He's a vastly-improved runner following a stable change. Anticipation travelled fourth along the fence, was held up four deep until ducking inside for a clear run at the 250m and was eating up the ground late to finish a clear second in a solid run despite a rise in class and distance. Second favourite Giovanni Canaletto sustained his run after making his move from the back to get up 50m out for a placing. Renaissance Art kept grinding away for fourth following a boxseat run. Basic Trilogy was yielding ground 150m out after setting even fractions on the lead. Mr Gnocchi made some ground without ever looking a chance with one wider out after travelling one off the fence behind midfield with money coming for him late. Favourite Victory Magic had no excuse following a handy run with cover but failed to let down when asked for an effort. He didn't handle the ground. Harbour Master continued to disappoint after travelling second from the back. Flame Hero didn't get the trip carrying top weight after travelling among the backmarkers.
