In a truly run race, Werther shot to the front near the inside 300m out following a one-off run travelling behind midfield and drew clear for a Derby/QE II Cup double. Evergreen Military Attack came on nicely four deep after travelling second from the rear to grab second 100m out. He doesn't know how to run a bad race. Blazing Speed travelled four deep with cover beyond midfield, rallied six deep upon straightening and gobbled up favourite Lovely Day 30m out for a placing. Favourite Lovely Day settled three back along the fence, moved to the front 400m out and peaked on his run 150m out. Designs On Rome made his move from the rear of the field at the 500m and finished reasonably well widest out to just miss a Quartet spot. Nuovo Record made some ground with one wider out after travelling third from the rear. Helene Happy Star pressed forward from a wide gate to sit outside Helene Super Star, assumed the lead 600m out and was giving way 150m out. Highland Reel sat outside Lovely Day with cover in midfield, faded back to near last rounding the final bend and made only a mild bid with two wider out. Specked late, Horse Of Fortune was beaten soon after straightening following a three-deep run without cover near the speed. He was outclassed.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (590)-THE AUDEMARS PIGUET QEII CUP - Group One - 2000Metres

Shortly after the start, RISING ROMANCE was bumped by WERTHER which shifted in after being bumped by HIGHLAND REEL.

A short distance later, RISING ROMANCE raced in restricted room between BLAZING SPEED and WERTHER which again shifted in.

After the 1800 Metres, SATONO CROWN and HIGHLAND REEL raced tight.

After passing the winning post on the first occasion, WERTHER got its head up when being steadied to avoid the heels of HIGHLAND REEL (R Moore) which shifted in when racing tight inside SATONO CROWN.

R Moore was reprimanded and advised that whilst the Stewards accepted that he was racing tight inside SATONO CROWN which was shifting in, nonetheless in similar circumstances he would be expected to make every endeavour to prevent his mounts form shifting ground.

Approaching the 500 Metres, HIGHLAND REEL and NUOVO RECORD raced tight.

MILITARY ATTACK lost its left front plate approaching the 300 Metres.

Approaching the 300 Metres, WERTHER and LOVELY DAY bumped.

Passing the 200 Metres, HELENE HAPPY STAR raced tight outside MILITARY ATTACK which shifted out.

After the 100 Metres, T Berry (DESIGNS ON ROME) dropped his right rein.

Throughout the race, ERTIJAAL travelled wide and without cover.

The performance of HELENE SUPER STAR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, HELENE SUPER STAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of HIGHLAND REEL and SATONO CROWN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that MILITARY ATTACK had sustained cuts to the inside of the left front fetlock.

LOVELY DAY, WERTHER and MILITARY ATTACK were sent for sampling.
