Recap by phillip woo
Even money favourite Sing Dragon just held off the late surge of Monta Frutta after moving to the lead 150m out following a pace-stalking run outside Hong Kong Hall for a third consecutive win following a switch to the dirt 1,200m. Monta Frutta was closing with every stride after travelling midfield on the fence following a slow start. It was a solid effort. He has settling in nicely now and remains one to follow on this surface. Hong Kong Hall kept on reasonably well for third at his initial run on the surface. Well-backed Victory Moments got going late for fourth after turning the final bend two from the rear. He might be looking for a mile trip. Reward Smile came from last to finish next best trying the dirt for the first time. He needed the run after lameness in November. Magniac only plodded when asked for an effort following a box seat run. He couldn't lift despite a riding change to a 10-pound claimer. Lightning Bolt never figured after biding his time toward the rear from the widest gate. Apache Pass was beaten for speed and a non-factor. He is a miler not a sprinter. Campione weakened after a prominent run. He isn't going well.
