Racing Incident Report
Race Five : (602) - POSITIVE AGEING 1650M HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters
Horse No 1 GALVANIC (H147) E C W Wong Near the 300 Metres was directed to the inside of FOREVER CHARM to secure clear running.
Over the final 200 Metres lay out and proved difficult to ride.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 2 BEAR SLAM (C143) H Bowman After the race, H Bowman reported that his mount was fractious in the gates prior to the start being effected.
He said as a result BEAR SLAM jumped awkwardly, but travelled satisfactorily throughout the early and middle stages before failing to respond to his riding in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
The performance of BEAR SLAM was considered to be disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.
Before being allowed to race again, BEAR SLAM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Horse No 5 CORDYCEPS ONE (E107) H Bentley Jumped awkwardly.
C L Chau (FAST VICTORY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he directed his mount out when insufficiently clear of CORDYCEPS ONE, resulting in CORDYCEPS ONE losing its rightful running and having to be checked.
C L Chau was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 5 May 2024 and to expire on Sunday, 12 May 2024 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays).
In addition, Jockey Chau was fined $90,000.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 3 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his neutral race riding record.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 6 G LINER (H072) K Teetan Near the 200 Metres K Teetan dropped his right rein for a number of strides.
Near the 150 Metres was bumped by FOREVER CHARM which shifted out.
Horse No 7 ALL RICHES (G060) K C Leung A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 8 FAST VICTORY (H393) C L Chau Held up for clear running from the 300 Metres until approaching the 200 Metres.
C L Chau pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 200 Metres (see CORDYCEPS ONE).
Horse No 9 MAYHEM (H226) Z Purton Approaching the 200 Metres was bumped by CORDYCEPS ONE and became unbalanced, resulting in its rider Z Purton having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 10 STARSHIP EIGHTY (H022) C Y Ho Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 11 HIGH RISE POWER (H353) K De Melo From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After the race, K De Melo reported that his mount did not travel well during the event and after the race was found to have its tongue over the bit.
Horse No 12 KYRUS UNICORN (D267) A Badel From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 13 UP AND UP (H163) M F Poon Approaching the 1100 Metres commenced to race keenly and got its head up when being steadied to avoid KEEN UNITY.
Horse No 14 KEEN UNITY (G298) A Hamelin A Hamelin was fined the sum of $2,000 for failing to present himself in the Parade Ring by the required time.
Near the 1150 Metres, when racing keenly, was steadied to avoid HAKKA RADIANCE which was positioned tight to the inside of CORDYCEPS ONE.
Horse No PANDA LEGEND (H002) L Hewitson Withdrawn on 19.4.24 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen left front leg) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter CORDYCEPS ONE.
Before being allowed to race again, PANDA LEGEND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Firming favourite Galvanic just scrambled in after railing through to lead near the 200m following a rails run better than midfield for a second win and first on the surface from 16th start. He lived up to an eye-catching second at his first go on the surface 17 days ago. Starship Eighty steamed home late down the outside to finish a close second after biding his time three from the rear. He continues to hold his condition very well despite a busy campaign. Well-fancied Fast Victory just missed out on second prize money after travelling fourth back on the fence. It was his best run from nine local starts. Kyrus Unicorn came from last along the inside for fourth. It was another honest effort. Punted late All Riches was only plodding over the final 100m after chasing a genuine pace one off in third. It was an okay effort trying the dirt for the first time. G Liner came up one paced after travelling on the back of the leader Forever Charm from gate seven. Keen Unity ran on steadily to finish next best after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He will be looking forward to Class Five.
