Race Five : (373) - THE YAN OI TONG CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1600Meters
Horse No 5 BEATO (H090) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 PRINCE ALEX (G307) L Hewitson Bumped at the start.
After the 400 Metres endeavoured to improve into a run between CHATEAU and GALLANT CROWN and as a result raced tight between the 400 Metres and the 350 Metres before securing clear running.
After the race, L Hewitson stated that after racing tight near the 400 Metres PRINCE ALEX failed to finish the race off and was somewhat disappointing.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 7 ROYAL PRIDE (E351) E C W Wong Between the 350 Metres and the 250 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when positioned behind HORSE OF GOOD LUCK.

Horse No 8 UP AND UP (H163) C L Chau Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, the Stewards considered an application from Jockey C L Chau and Trainer C S Shum that UP AND UP had been denied a fair start.
After considering the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that UP AND UP reared as the start was effected and consequently lost ground.
The Stewards were of the view that UP AND UP had not been denied a fair start and declared weighed-in on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.
Horse No 9 CHATEAU (H214) A Atzeni After the race, A Atzeni reported that from the outside barrier he was obliged to take up a forward position and as a result CHATEAU was unable to finish the race off.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 11 GO GO SIXTEEN (E244) M F Poon Slow to begin and refused to take any competitive part in the event.
After the race, M F Poon stated that he was not comfortable with his mount's action and as a result did not continue to ride it out in the Home Straight when not in a competitive position.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
The performance of GO GO SIXTEEN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, GO GO SIXTEEN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.
Horse No 12 JOYFUL PROSPERITY (H213) K C Leung Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 14 DRAGON PRIDE (D164) A Badel Examined at the request of A Badel at the Start and passed suitable to race.
Horse No 3 BEER PALACE (H361) H Bowman Refused to proceed to the Start and as a consequence was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.
Trainer M Newnham was advised that BEER PALACE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and also be subject to a parade test before its next race start.
Horse No OWNERS' PRAISE (H047) H Bentley Withdrawn on 26.1.24 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter PRINCE ALEX.
Before being allowed to race again, OWNERS' PRAISE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Beato won going away 150m out after a one-off trip from behind midfield for a first local win at his 14th start. He was overdue and struck a depthless Class Four race. Joyful Prosperity did everything right but get the win after hitting the lead 280m out following a one-off trip with cover from better than midfield. He's racing well without winning. Chilli Baba ran on steadily for third after a wide with cover trip from midfield. He relished the step up in distance after a pleasing fourth over an inadequate 1,000m. Flying Mojito dashed late near the outside to just miss a placing after a patient ride third last. It was a pleasing effort down in grade carrying top weight. Dragon Pride made some ground late for fifth after a patient ride three from the rear. He's itching for a downgrade. Gallant Crown weakened to finish next best after finding a spot one off with cover chasing leading pair from gate 10. Horse Of Good Luck didn't have much left in the tank over the final 150m after getting pressured up front from gate nine. Chateau tired after working hard to lead narrowly one off the fence 950m out from gate 14.
