Recap by phillip woo

Betting drifter Heroic Master raced prominently one off the fence and responded well to take control 100m and score his second win over 1,000m at Happy Valley from 11 starts. He built on his last-start third over the same course and distance. Well-backed late, Majestic Knight stalked the pace from the outside draw, rushed to the lead 200m out and stayed on strongly for second. He was honest on his first run over Happy Valley's minimum trip. Favourite Humble Star ran on well from worse than midfield to finish a close third. He is crying out for 1,200m after placing in both of his 1,000m races this season. Explosive Witness ran on nicely down the outside to fill the frame. He is not far off a bottom. Kyrus Dragon did well to finish the next best after starting slowly and biding his time at the rear. It was an encouraging effort on his Hong Kong debut. Punted late, Harmony N Blessed only plodded over the last 100m after chasing the leading pair on the rail. He could not handle carrying the top weight following his last-start win. Sports Legend will sleep well after getting posted wide without cover in midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (68) - NAM FUNG HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1000Meters

Horse No 1 HARMONY N BLESSED (E061) K C Leung A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, HARMONY N BLESSED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 3 MAJESTIC KNIGHT (G258) L Hewitson Was bumped on jumping.

Was sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 HEROIC MASTER (G394) K Teetan Was sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 KYRUS DRAGON (H396) K De Melo Was slow to begin.

When questioned, K De Melo stated that his mount was fractious in the barriers and as a consequence jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

He said due to his mount's mannerism in the barriers, he had not had the opportunity to fit his goggles and as a result after travelling approximately 200 Metres fitted his goggles.

When questioned regarding his riding on the Home Turn as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the outside of EXPLOSIVE WITNESS sooner than what he did, K De Melo stated that from the 550 Metres his mount was not travelling well enough to make a forward move and as a consequence he elected to remain racing to the outside of EXPLOSIVE WITNESS.

He added that when EXPLOSIVE WITNESS then shifted out to improve on the Home Turn, this resulted in KYRUS DRAGON being taken wider before he was able to shift his mount back to the inside to secure clear running at the 300 Metres.

K De Melo was advised that whenever possible he must ensure all equipment is properly fitted before the start of a race.

Horse No 6 HUMBLE STAR (H125) Z Purton Was sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 SPORTS LEGEND (H456) C Y Ho Jumped awkwardly and then was bumped shortly after the start.

After the race, C Y Ho stated that whilst his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event, when he had concern that there might be something amiss with SPORTS LEGEND, he did not ride it out to the finish.

Trainer J Richards stated that SPORTS LEGEND had pleased him in its three barrier trials since arriving in Hong Kong, however, in retrospect SPORTS LEGEND may have needed some more time to climatise to Hong Kong.

He added that as a result he now intends to send SPORTS LEGEND to Conghua to freshen it up before its next race start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of SPORTS LEGEND was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, SPORTS LEGEND will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 8 AMAZING ROCKY (D356) Y L Chung Became fractious whilst parading, examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and passed suitable to race.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
