Racing Incident Report
Race Five: (745) - THE CRICKET CLUB VALLEY STAKES (HANDICAP) - Class 2 - 1200Meters
WINNING ICEY shifted out shortly after the start and brushed EASON.
From a wide barrier, REWARDING TOGETHER was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
In the middle stages, EXPLOSIVE WITNESS raced keenly and when placed under pressure in the Home Straight lay in.
When questioned regarding the performance of HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE, M Dee stated that his intention was to hold a more forward position, but when both STREET SCREAM and EASON that were positioned directly to his inside jumped well and showed good early speed, he was obliged to follow those runners in the early stages and settled further back than what he had intended.
He added that when placed under pressure in the Straight, HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE responded only fairly to his riding and found it difficult to make up ground after settling further back than intended.
A veterinary inspection of HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, M F Poon (NORDIC DRAGON) stated that with the anticipated lack of early speed in the race, he was instructed to take up a forward position on NORDIC DRAGON.
Trainer C S Shum confirmed the instructions issued.
Also after the race, M Chadwick (POWER KOEPP) stated that after racing tight to the inside of NORDIC DRAGON in the early stages, he was obliged to allow that runner to cross.
He said as a result POWER KOEPP was left racing wide and without cover for the majority of the event and failed to respond to his riding in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of POWER KOEPP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE, NORDIC DRAGON and MAJESTIC STAR were sent for sampling.

Nordic Dragon had plenty left in the tank after easily leading from gate nine and rang up his fifth win from eight starts - and third consecutive victory - despite rising in class. He is quickly paying back his HK$7 million price tag, and there is more to come from him. Majestic Star stayed on nicely for second after going forward wide to track the winner 700m out. He is a genuine sprinter on both surfaces. Winning Icey ran on well from midfield near the inside to make it close for second. He relished returning to his happy hunting ground of Happy Valley after misfiring on the dirt. Eason kept on well to finish just out of the placings after his prominent run. It was another good effort after winning two of his previous three starts. Favourite Howdeepisyourlove ran on from behind midfield without threatening the placegetters. He ran below expectations, but he has had a good campaign, particularly for a three-year-old galloper. Street Scream came up one-paced after chasing the winner on the fence. He is a Class Three sprinter. Rewarding Together was next best after making his run from the back of the field under 135 pounds.
