Racing Incident Report
Race Eight: (748) - VIOLET HILL HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters
On jumping, ALL ARE MINE and IVY LEAGUE were crowded between STAR CONTACT and VIVA HUNTER, both of which shifted ground.
ROMANTIC LAOS jumped only fairly and then was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
From the outside barriers, MALDIVES and ALL BEAUTY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
From a wide barrier, GALLANT CROWN was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After travelling a short distance, CAPITAL LEGEND was steadied away from VIVA HUNTER which shifted out slightly.
CAPITAL LEGEND was then inclined to race keenly in the early stages when being steadied to obtain cover behind IVY LEAGUE.
After the 600 Metres, CAPITAL LEGEND shifted to the outside of IVY LEAGUE and then lay out making that turn for a short distance thereafter.
STAR CONTACT was held up for a short distance after the 400 Metres behind SUPER BABY.
MALDIVES was held up on the Home Turn.
IVY LEAGUE lay in under pressure in the Straight and over the concluding stages could not be fully tested when being corrected by its rider, L Hewitson.
After the race, Z Purton (ROMANTIC LAOS) stated that he was able to obtain a favourable position on the rail from his wide barrier.
He said when asked for an effort in the Straight, ROMANTIC LAOS initially responded to his riding, but up in class tonight did not finish the race off strongly over the final 200 Metres.
A veterinary inspection of ROMANTIC LAOS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Also after the race, ALL ARE MINE was noted to have sustained wounds to the left front cannon.
A veterinary inspection of SUPER BABY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ROMANTIC LAOS, MALDIVES and VIVA HUNTER were sent for sampling.

Maldives produced a well-timed run to overhaul Viva Hunter and register his first win this season on his 15th appearance. He had been racing honestly and deserved his first victory of a busy campaign. Viva Hunter did everything but win after hitting the front 350m out following his one-out, one-back run. The 1,650m journey at Happy Valley is his favourite test. Hameron weaved his run near the inside to fill a placing after a patient ride third last from gate seven. He is a winner waiting to happen after catching the eye in his three local starts. Ivy League ran on well from behind midfield to fill the frame. Aided by a hood and trying the Happy Valley mile for the first time, it was his best run from nine local starts. Star Contact only held his ground after a prominent run on the rail. He has had a good campaign but appears to have hit his mark. War Weapon made just a mild bid after his midfield run one off the fence. His switch from Sha Tin to Happy Valley did not have the desired effect. Favourite Romantic Laos had his chance but peaked on his run 100m out following his rail run worse than midfield. He was not up to the challenge.
