Star Of Wuyi just beat Shenron after his one-off-the-fence run better than midfield to break his maiden on his 17th start. He had been costly for punters, but he had produced an odd good effort now and then and was stepping out off a new rating low. Shenron made it close on the wire after easing out of an early speed duel to travel one off in third. He lived up to his improved run over 1,200m last week. Jazz Steed finished nicely near the outside to finish a close third after Alfred Chan Ka-hei's patient ride. He showed his true colours on his return to Class Five. Favourite Nextmodel was on his tippy toes 50m out after sharing the lead holding the fence with Glorified Fire. He should be able to get away with a race down the road in this grade. Shanghai Power stayed on all right after his prominent run wide without cover from his tricky gate. He seems to have lost a bit of his gate speed but it was still a better run second up. Strive For Glory was all dressed up with nowhere to go over the final 200m after his handy run. He had an excuse. Punted late, Little Player was short of room late when making his move from towards the rear. He made a slow start in his season debut for his new trainer, Chris So Wai-yin.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (84) - POTTINGER HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1000Meters

LITTLE PLAYER began only fairly.

SHENRON shifted out on jumping and brushed SHANGHAI POWER.

Then despite being vigorously ridden for some distance in the early stages, SHANGHAI POWER was slow to muster speed and after the 600 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.

From wide barriers, JAZZ STEED and ACA POWER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

JAZZ STEED lay out rounding the Home Turn and at the entrance to the Straight bumped SMART FOLKS.

STRIVE FOR GLORY had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and after the 200 Metres was steadied away from the heels of GLORIFIED FIRE after being disappointed for running between that horse and SHENRON which shifted in marginally.

After this, STRIVE FOR GLORY was unable to obtain clear running and because of this was not able to be properly tested.

Approaching the 50 Metres, STEEL WIN was crowded for room between DASHING GENIUS and JAZZ STEED (K H Chan) which shifted in under pressure before being corrected by its rider.

K H Chan was reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to react quicker than he did on this occasion to his mounts shifting ground.

LITTLE PLAYER was badly held up for clear running over the concluding stages and because of this was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.

A veterinary inspection of GLORIFIED FIRE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in its trachea and also found the horse to be a "roarer??which had previously been reported.

NEXTMODEL, STAR OF WUYI and SHENRON were sent for sampling.
