Recap by phillip woo
Raging favourite California Spangle led and drew clear after turning the final bend a length on top to return an impressive winner. He's shown great versatility to win seven times at 1,000m, 1,200m, 1,400m and 1,800m from 11 starts and there seems to be more up his sleeve. Healthy Happy stayed on well after chasing the speed one off the fence. He lived up a placing at his final start last season and does go well fresh. Duke Wai just held his ground settling box-seat. He's as honest as the day is long but does find things tough at this level. Mighty Giant got going from last to fill the frame. It was a better run on his past few starts and he may be close to a bottom. Cheerful Days never landed a blow travelling second last in the compact field. He's usually pretty honest but came up flat on this occasion. Will Power never featured travelling one from the rear. He's a dirt horse but doesn't have many options going forward.
