Recap by phillip woo

Winwin Thirtythree drew clear to win geared down after hitting the front 150m out following a prominent run along the fence for a third career win. He was knocking on the door late last season. Aurora Hero ran on nicely settling one-off behind midfield to take second. He relished a downgrade in his first run for his new trainer. Towards Success weaved a run from the rear of the field to fill a placing. It was a good run from a wide draw and he does appear to be turning the corner. Lotus Favourites made a steady bid late travelling behind midfield on the fence to fill the frame. It was a good run over an inadequate trip. Booming Well kept on evenly after a one-off trip in midfield. It was a typical performance. Zacian ran on without menacing down the outside after settling fourth from the rear and wide on the track. He couldn't build on a fourth on opening day but did cover a lot of ground. Brave Power stayed on without threatening after a wide trip in midfield. The big weight didn't help. Apex Top couldn't lift his feet over the last 150m after getting all favours in the box-seat. It was a disappointing effort.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (20) - CHEONG WAN HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1400Meters

BOOMING WELL began only fairly.

GOLDEN FOUR shifted in at the start and bumped NOBODY KNOWS.

After this, GOLDEN FOUR was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

From wide barriers, LEISURE AND GOLD and LOTUS FAVORITES were also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

TOWARDS SUCCESS got its head up on a number of occasions when being restrained in the early stages with a view to obtaining a position closer to the rail from a wide barrier.

Passing the 1200 Metres, TRAVEL GLORY raced tight inside APEX TOP which got its head on the side and lay in away from FORTUNE MARBO.

Then near the 1150 Metres, FORTUNE MARBO (C L Chau) shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of APEX TOP, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced and in turn shifting in and crowding TRAVEL GLORY which also became unbalanced.

C L Chau was reprimanded and told that he must alert to his mounts shifting ground to avoid making contact with other horses.

When APEX TOP was directed out to relieve the crowding to TRAVEL GLORY, FORTUNE MARBO was taken out, resulting in FOXHUNTER WAY being hampered.

After this, FOXHUNTER WAY was left racing wide and without cover and was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead approaching the 900 Metres.

Passing the 1150 Metres, BOOMING WELL was momentarily crowded for room inside WINWIN THIRTYTHREE which got its head on the side and lay in away from BRAVE POWER.

After this, BOOMING WELL continued to be awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINWIN THIRTYTHREE for a short distance.

Passing the 1000 Metres, TOWARDS SUCCESS got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed behind LOTUS FAVORITES.

After the 900 Metres, BRAVE POWER was left racing wide and without cover.

Passing the 600 Metres, AURORA HERO raced in restricted room between BRAVE POWER and BOOMING WELL which shifted out away from the heels of WINWIN THIRTYTHREE.

Rounding the Home Turn, BRAVE POWER and BOOMING WELL raced tight as BOOMING WELL was shifted out from behind FORTUNE MARBO.

At the entrance to the Straight, FORTUNE MARBO raced tight outside WINWIN THIRTYTHREE which shifted out to obtain clear running.

Approaching the 200 Metres, BRAVE POWER was bumped by AURORA HERO (J Moreira) which shifted in.

J Moreira was reprimanded and told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.

After the race, S De Sousa reported that APEX TOP travelled satisfactorily in the early and middle stages and initially quickened well in the early part of the Straight.

He said however that over the concluding stages the horse's condition gave out and he anticipated that it would improve for today's race.

A veterinary inspection of APEX TOP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of TRAVEL GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

APEX TOP, WINWIN THIRTYTHREE and AURORA HERO were sent for sampling.
