Racing Incident Report
Race Five: (410) - PENFOLD PARK HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters
CAPTAIN LONG (K C Leung) shifted in at the start and bumped the hindquarters of XPONENTIAL which became unbalanced and which resulted in CAPTAIN LONG losing ground.
CAPTAIN LONG was then ridden along in an attempt to obtain a more forward position and near the 1150 Metres lost ground when crowded for room between XPONENTIAL which shifted out after becoming unbalanced and HANDSOME VEGGIE which shifted in marginally when racing tight inside BLISSFUL STAR.
In this incident, HANDSOME VEGGIE also became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by CAPTAIN LONG.
K C Leung confirmed that it was intended for CAPTAIN LONG to either lead tonight's race or to obtain a trailing position.
He said as a result of being crowded for room, CAPTAIN LONG raced much further back in the field than had been intended and did not appear to be comfortable racing amongst other horses in the middle stages.
He said then after being placed under pressure in the Straight CAPTAIN LONG did not finish the race off.
A veterinary inspection of CAPTAIN LONG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WINS ALL and FORTUNE HAPPINESS bumped at the start.
FORTUNE HAPPINESS then shifted out, resulting in SUGAR SUGAR being crowded for room inside MY INTELLIGENT.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, FORTUNE HAPPINESS then failed to muster speed and passing the 1100 Metres was shifted across behind runners.
MY INTELLIGENT was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, HANDSOME VEGGIE was steadied away from the heels of BLISSFUL STAR which was taken in by LORIZ.
CAPTAIN LONG, which was travelling keenly when following HANDSOME VEGGIE, got its head up when being steadied away from that horse in consequence.
When racing wide after the 1000 Metres, SHADOW RUNNER was awkwardly placed outside the heels of LORIZ when being steadied to obtain cover.
Near the 850 Metres, SUGAR SUGAR shifted in and brushed the running rail.
Passing the 600 Metres, CAPTAIN LONG got its head on the side, shifted in and bumped MY INTELLIGENT.
MY INTELLIGENT then became unbalanced and made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly and in doing so again bumped with CAPTAIN LONG.
JOYFUL GENIUS brushed the running rail making the turn after the 600 Metres.
Rounding the Home Turn, MY INTELLIGENT momentarily raced tight inside HANDSOME VEGGIE which got its head on the side and lay in towards the heels of SUGAR SUGAR.
In the early part of the Straight, BLISSFUL STAR lay out and then approaching the 100 Metres shifted out abruptly, resulting in its rider, M L Yeung, having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Passing the 150 Metres, SHADOW RUNNER and WINS ALL raced tight.
Throughout the race, FORTUNE MARBO travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of SHADOW RUNNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LORIZ and JOYFUL GENIUS were sent for sampling.

Loriz did it hard sitting outside Xponential in the lead from a wide gate but showed plenty of stamina on this occasion to edge clear 50m out for a fourth career win over this Valley trip. He was well rated and caught the eye with a near win last start. Firming favourite Joyful Genius ran on steadily along the inside to just take second after a handy run on the fence. He was given every chance by Zac Purton but has placed in four of eight starts and can break through at any moment. Xponential grudgingly gave way after vying for the lead holding the fence from gate two. He's honest as the day is long but the big weight took its toll in the end. Blissful Star stayed on for a spot in the top four without menacing the placegetters after a one-out, one-back run. He's a winner waiting to happen after filling the frame in his three starts. Wins All ran on well after getting caught three-wide towards the rear. He's run with merit twice over this course and distance from three starts following a pelvic injury. Second-starter Sugar Sugar made a mild bid after a rails run in midfield. He's still a work in progress. In a typical performance, My Intelligent ran on without menacing from towards the rear. He's crying out for a longer trip.
