Well-backed late Excellent Daddy just wore down First Responder in the dying stages after a dream run third and one off the fence for a first win at his fourth start. His preparation had been good. First Responder wouldn't go down without a fight after assuming the lead from California Cible following a pace-pressing run along the fence. It was another fine effort following back-to-back wins over the straight 1,000m. Sauvestre kept on well to make it close on the wire following a prominent run. He's acclimatising nicely after a pleasing debut effort in July. Royal Pride finished nicely from towards the rear to add value to the quartet. It was a much-improved effort at his third local start. Favourite Gluck Racer was getting going late settling further back than usual behind midfield from an outside gate. He didn't get a race run to suit and may be looking for a longer trip as well. Lifeline Vision ran on steadily without menacing after a rails trip in midfield. He's still acclimatising. Star Of Yuen Long made only a mild bid after wide trip behind midfield. He had an excuse. California Cible didn't have much left in the run to the wire after working hard to lead one off the fence from a wide draw. He's capable of better.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (92) - YEUNG UK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

K Teetan (STAR OF YUEN LONG) was fined the sum of $2,000 for failing to present himself in the Parade Ring by the required time.

SHADOW MISSION began awkwardly.

LIFELINE VISION shifted out at the start and bumped EXCELLENT DADDY.

BRIGHT KID began only fairly.

ARMANDO and GLUCK RACER bumped at the start.

From the outside barrier, CROSSFORD was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After being ridden along from a wide barrier in the early stages, STAR OF YUEN LONG was steadied shortly after the start to obtain cover when racing wide.

Passing the 400 Metres, EXCELLENT DADDY became unbalanced of its own accord and shifted in.

LIFELINE VISION had some difficulty obtaining clear running when attempting to improve into tight running inside FIRST RESPONDER approaching and passing the 300 Metres.

Throughout the race, SAUVESTRE travelled wide and without cover.

The performance of SHADOW MISSION, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, SHADOW MISSION will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of SHADOW MISSION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, C Schofield stated that in order to obtain cover, GLUCK RACER was required to race further back in the field than had been anticipated and then in the Straight finished off the race satisfactorily.

Also after the race, M F Poon stated that he had to make too much use of CALIFORNIA CIBLE in the early stages to obtain a forward position from a wide barrier.

He said at its last start when drawn barrier 1, CALIFORNIA CIBLE was able to obtain a forward position without having to be ridden too aggressively, however, today he was not able to cross to race outside FIRST RESPONDER until after the 900 Metres and because of the amount of use that he had to make of CALIFORNIA CIBLE, the horse was then not able to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA CIBLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

GLUCK RACER, EXCELLENT DADDY and FIRST RESPONDER were sent for sampling.
