Recap by phillip woo
Green Luck got the split between runners mid-straight to mow down post-time favourite Highland Fortune near the 100m after a perfectly executed ride three back on the fence for a second win this season. Highland Fortune couldn't hold off the winner after slipping through along the inside to lead 200m out following a box-seat run behind the strong pace of Solar Wai Wai and Magnificent. He was able to build on a near upset win last start over the 1,600m. Early favourite Savaquin came from last to fill a placing without threatening the quinella pair. It was another honest performance but he may be on or near his mark. Glorious Artist made a decent bid late down the outside to fill the frame after biding his time third last. It was a creditable performance carrying top weight. Solar Wai Wai knocked up 100m out after getting pestered for the front by Magnificent. He went a bit too quick in front. Punted late, The Rock peaked on his move 100m out after getting going 550m out following a one-off run worse than midfield. The seven-pound penalty was too much to overcome. Magnificent was gone 150m out after pressing the pace from a wide draw. He's a Class Three horse.
