Recap by phillip woo

Rolled-up to start a clear-cut favourite, Telecom Fighters kept up a strong gallop despite getting pestered for the front by Indicative Vote 800m out to ring up a third win from his past four starts. He's in terrific form but may find it harder next time at the top of the weights or in Class Two off a light weight. Exceptional Nice just held off Celestial Power by a pimple for second after getting a lovely run in the box seat. He's racing very well without winning. Punted late, Celestial Power ran on well along the inside to just miss second after a patient ride third last from a wide gate. It was a good effort carrying top weight. Well-backed late, Sacred Ibis got going from behind midfield to get up for fourth without menacing the top three but was held up on a couple of occasions in the straight. He can produce an odd good run now and then. Indicative Vote stayed on better after working forward three deep without cover to track the eventual winner from a tricky gate. It was an improved effort following a stable change. Helene Wisdom Star ran on without menacing down the outside from the rear of the field. He's had a lot of hard runs this term and does appear from his past few to be on his mark.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (775) - KENNEDY HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

As Apprentice C L Chau was unable to fulfil the engagement on SMILING CITY due to being overweight, A Hamelin was substituted as the rider of that horse.

Apprentice Chau was fined the sum of $5,000.

SACRED IBIS was slow to begin.

YOO YOO KING was slow to begin and then lost ground when bumped by KING'S CAPITAL which shifted in.

From wide barriers, HELENE WISDOM STAR and CELESTIAL POWER were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, TURIN REDSTAR was slow to muster speed.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SMILING CITY travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover and after passing the winning post on the first occasion was bumped by INDICATIVE VOTE which shifted in.

When SMILING CITY was steadied to obtain cover, KING'S CAPITAL was awkwardly placed behind that horse in consequence.

Passing the 1300 Metres, SMILING CITY got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly towards the heels of INDICATIVE VOTE.

This resulted in SMILING CITY being awkwardly placed behind WINNING FOR ALL and getting its head up when being checked away from the heels of that horse approaching the 1200 Metres.

SMILING CITY then continued to travel keenly and again got its head up when being checked away from the heels of WINNING FOR ALL for some distance approaching and passing the 1100 Metres.

Also passing the 1300 Metres, INDICATIVE VOTE was left racing wide and without cover and near the 900 Metres was ridden along to obtain a more forward position closer to the rail.

Approaching the 600 Metres, SKY SHOW was awkwardly placed close to the heels of INDICATIVE VOTE which shifted in to race outside the lead.

When INDICATIVE VOTE shifted in, this resulted in TURIN REDSTAR being left racing wide and without cover.

Near the 650 Metres, WINNING FOR ALL came under pressure and then became badly unbalanced of its own accord and lost ground abruptly.

SMILING CITY, which was following WINNING FOR ALL, got its head up when being checked away from the heels of that horse.

SMILING CITY was then taken back through the field when WINNING FOR ALL gave ground abruptly.

After the race, C Y Ho stated that when WINNING FOR ALL became unbalanced in its action, he felt that something may have gone amiss with the horse and because of this he eased his mount down at about the 500 Metres.

A veterinary inspection of WINNING FOR ALL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of WINNING FOR ALL, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, WINNING FOR ALL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When SMILING CITY was taken back through the field, that horse shifted away from the heels of WINNING FOR ALL near the 550 Metres and bumped HELENE WISDOM STAR.

Passing the 500 Metres, CELESTIAL POWER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SACRED IBIS.

Passing the 300 Metres, EXCEPTIONAL NICE raced tight inside INDICATIVE VOTE which lay in under pressure.

After this, INDICATIVE VOTE continued to lay in for the remainder of the race.

Passing the 150 Metres, SACRED IBIS was shifted to the inside of EXCEPTIONAL NICE after being disappointed for running between that horse which shifted out and INDICATIVE VOTE.

Over the concluding stages, SACRED IBIS raced tight inside EXCEPTIONAL NICE (A Badel) which shifted in under pressure.

A Badel was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Due to racing tight inside EXCEPTIONAL NICE, SACRED IBIS was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.

A veterinary inspection of SMILING CITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

TELECOM FIGHTERS and EXCEPTIONAL NICE were sent for sampling.
