Recap by phillip woo

In a blanket finish, late-plunged Great Harvest rattled home down the outside after travelling five back and one off the fence from a wide gate to split the win with favourite Speedy Optimist. It was clearly his best run to date but he did produce a better effort last time out. Speedy Optimist did everything right but get the out with a win after moving to the front near the 100m out following a box-seat run. He had been knocking on the door in his past two starts. Vital Spring dashed strongly near the inside to finish a very close third following a patient ride second from the rear. He's always a chance over this Valley trip. Kwai Chung Elite closed well from behind midfield to just miss a placing. He's produced mixed results in his three outings this term. Noble Desire stayed on without menacing following a rail run in midfield. He should be able to find his mark shortly in this grade. Golden Mission ran on steadily near the outside after making his run third from the rear. He's more effective at Sha Tin.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (250) - BRAZIL HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Meters

KWAI CHUNG ELITE lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then was bumped by NOBLE DESIRE which shifted out shortly after the start.

GOLDEN MISSION began awkwardly.

SUPER EIGHTEEN shifted in at the start and bumped FOR FUN'S SAKE which in turn shifted in and made contact with THE ABRAXAS.

DESTINE JEWELLERY began awkwardly and then, from a wide barrier, was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

From a wide barrier, VITAL SPRING was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, GREAT HARVEST was slow to muster speed and after the 1100 Metres was steadied to obtain cover.

After the 1100 Metres, KA FORTUNE raced tight inside the heels of THE ABRAXAS (H N Wong) which, when being ridden along to obtain the lead, got its head on the side and lay in.

H N Wong was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Near the 950 Metres, FOR FUN'S SAKE got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover behind KA FORTUNE.

Approaching the 900 Metres, GOLDEN MISSION momentarily raced tight inside the heels of GREAT HARVEST which was then directed out and ridden along to clear GOLDEN MISSION.

Near the 150 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD was shifted out away from the heels of SUPER EIGHTEEN which was giving ground.

Then approaching the 50 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD was shifted in away from the heels of KA FORTUNE which was taken in by FOR FUN'S SAKE which, after initially being directed in by KWAI CHUNG ELITE, then shifted in away from that horse.

After the race, N Callan stated that after being afforded a good position behind the leaders in the early and middle stages, KA FORTUNE was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of KA FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of SUPER EIGHTEEN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

NOBLE DESIRE, SPEEDY OPTIMIST and GREAT HARVEST were sent for sampling.
