Glorious Artist got up in the last stride after a one-out, one-back run for an upset win. He's known as a dirt horse but did place twice from six previous goes over this Valley trip. Packing Waltham was grabbed on the wire after hitting the front 150m out following a perfect run in midfield on the fence. He's quickly come to hand in his three starts and will be winning shortly. Favourite Savvy Nine ran on well from behind midfield to finish a close third. He's a winner waiting to a happen if he stays in the grade over this trip or even 2,000m. Well backed, Tianchi Monster stayed on a distant fourth following a midfield run. It wasn't a bad effort but his best runs have clearly come at Sha Tin. Butterfield plugged on one-paced after stalking the leader from a wide gate to finish next best. The big weight and wide gates took its toll. Plunged late, Magnificent didn't get the trip after a box-seat run. Early favourite Maximus never landed a blow after making his run one-off behind midfield. He needs more time to acclimatise.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (257) - UNITED KINGDOM HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1800Meters

SAVVY NINE and FLYING QUEST began only fairly.

MAXIMUS began awkwardly.

STAR SHINE was crowded for room on jumping between INSAYSHABLE which shifted in and GLORIOUS ARTIST which shifted out before being taken out further by BEAR AGAIN.

From the outside barrier, GREEN LUCK was shifted across behind runners in the early stages and passing the winning post on the first occasion was left racing wide and without cover and was steadied further to obtain a position with cover.

GREEN LUCK was again left racing wide and without cover passing the 1100 Metres.

After the 1100 Metres, INSAYSHABLE got its head up on a number of occasions when racing ungenerously.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, GREEN LUCK raced tight outside MAXIMUS which improved to the outside of TIANCHI MONSTER.

Approaching the 100 Metres, TIANCHI MONSTER was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GLORIOUS ARTIST which shifted out marginally under pressure.

After the race, A Badel stated that MAXIMUS would not relax and travelled keenly throughout the race and then when the pace of the race quickened approaching the 400 Metres was left flat-footed.

He said MAXIMUS was somewhat disappointing in its failure to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of MAXIMUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned regarding the performance of GREEN LUCK, J Moreira stated that, from the outside barrier, he was asked to shift the horse across behind runners and obtain cover.

He said the pace of the race was not strong which did not suit GREEN LUCK and that, together with the fact that the horse had to cover ground as a result of racing wide and without cover for the majority of the race were the principal reasons for its failure to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of GREEN LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of FLYING QUEST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

MAXIMUS, GLORIOUS ARTIST and PACKING WALTHAM were sent for sampling.

Adjourned Inquiries a.

11 November 2020 Happy Valley Racemeeting - Race 5 (180) The Stewards tonight concluded the inquiry into the reason for THE ELITES falling making the turn after the 600 Metres and dislodging its rider M F Poon.

Evidence was tonight taken from M F Poon and Mr F C Lor, trainer of THE ELITES.

It was found that THE ELITES became badly unbalanced of its own accord and fell.

It was further established that there was not any outside influence which resulted in this incident and accordingly no action was necessary in respect of the incident other than action to be taken regarding THE ELITES' racing manners.

Mr Lor was advised that prior to being permitted to race again, THE ELITES will be required to undertake a series of at least three consecutive barriers trials, such barrier trials being around a bend and one of which must include a barrier trial conducted at Happy Valley Racecourse.

In the trials, the horse is required to be positioned amongst runners and must be ridden by a senior jockey.

Mr Lor was told that only a senior work rider is permitted to ride the horse in its track work until further notice.

Further, Mr Lor was told that should THE ELITES' racing manners come to the attention of the Stewards, whether it be in barriers trials or in a race, they would consider the horse's suitability to continue racing in Hong Kong.

29 November 2020 Sha Tin Racemeeting - Race 1 (221) The Stewards tonight concluded the inquiry into the reason for LUCKY FUN stumbling near the 450 Metres and dislodging its rider M Chadwick.

Evidence was tonight taken from Jockey Chadwick.

M Chadwick explained that when GOKO improved outside LUCKY FUN, which was having its first start in this race, LUCKY WIN commenced to travel keenly and improved of its own accord to be racing close to the heels of MULTIMORE.

This resulted in LUCKY FUN clipping the heels of MULTIMORE near the 450 Metres and stumbling which caused him to be dislodged from the horse.

M Chadwick was of the opinion that there was no error or carelessness exhibited by any rider in this incident which led to him being dislodged.

After considering Jockey Chadwick's evidence and viewing the films, the Stewards concurred with Jockey Chadwick's assessment and accordingly no further action was taken
