Racing Incident Report
Race Six: (189) - PANASONIC WASHING MACHINE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1600Meters
SPEED FORCE shifted out at the start and bumped APEX TOP.
MARVELOUS FANS put its head down as the start was effected and then shifted in, resulting in CASIMIRO being crowded for room outside EVER LAUGH which also shifted out.
In this incident, EVER LAUGH became badly unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by CASIMIRO.
SEAWEED FORTUNE was slow to begin.
From wide barriers, JIMMU and FAMILY LEADER were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Near the 1350 Metres, SEAWEED FORTUNE brushed the running rail.
When the tempo of the race slackened after the 1100 Metres, CALIFORNIA LEGEND was checked away from the heels of ALL FOR ST PAUL'S (Apprentice K H Chan).
SPEED FORCE and SEAWEED FORTUNE, which were following, were hampered in consequence.
APEX TOP, which was following LIGHT MY DAY (K C Leung), was steadied away from the heels of that horse, resulting in EVER LAUGH, which was travelling very keenly, being checked away from the heels of APEX TOP after the 1100 Metres and in doing so shifting in and crowding the racing room of SEAWEED FORTUNE.
MARVELOUS FANS, which was following EVER LAUGH, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence and in doing so bumped DECISIVE ACTION which was travelling keenly when racing wide and without cover.
This resulted in DECISIVE ACTION being checked away from the heels of BULLETPROOF and after the 900 Metres being left racing wide and without cover.
For some distance after this, MARVELOUS FANS was awkwardly placed behind BULLETPROOF.
Apprentice Chan and K C Leung were warned against the practice of reducing the tempo of the race such that horses which are following do not have time to adapt to the change of tempo.
BUNDLE OF DELIGHT was held up for clear running from approaching the 300 Metres until near the 200 Metres at which stage the horse was shifted to the outside of SPEED FORCE after being disappointed for running inside that horse.
Approaching the 300 Metres, DECISIVE ACTION got its head on the side and lay out.
After this, DECISIVE ACTION continued to lay out until after the 200 Metres.
Near the 100 Metres, MARVELOUS FANS race right between DECISIVE ACTION and EVER LAUGH which shifted out after brushing APEX TOP.
CASIMIRO lay in under pressure in the Straight.
After the race, A Hamelin reported that, in his opinion, APEX TOP did not see out the 1600 Metres of today's race.
He said the early stages of the race were run at a good tempo and although the pace slackened in the middle stages, he felt that early tempo of the race was not conducive to APEX TOP seeing out the 1600 Metres.
He said he noted that APEX TOP had previously raced over 1600 Metres and had not finished off those races and therefore he is of the view that the horse may be suited back in distance.
A veterinary inspection of APEX TOP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

DECISIVE ACTION, CASIMIRO and ALL FOR ST PAUL'S were sent for sampling.

Casimiro came with a perfectly-timed run from the rear of the field to just deny longtime leader All For St Paul's in the shadows of the post to land a betting plunge. He was never far off the mark in his opening three starts this term. All For St Paul's nearly pinched the race after a well-rated run in front by Alfred Chan Ka-hei. Seaweed Fortune made it close on the wire following a midfield run. Bulletproof peaked on his run 50m out after looming a chance at the 200m following a wide run in midfield from gate 13. Favourite Decisive Action stayed on all right after getting posted four deep without cover behind midfield at the 800m. Family Leader left things too late after settling towards the rear from the widest gate. Ever Laugh held his ground after badly over-racing bunched up in midfield. Forget Bundle Of Delight went around after getting badly held up for most the straight along the inside following a patient ride third from the rear.
