Racing Incident Report
Race Ten: (500) - SHEUNG HEI HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1400Meters
MIGHTY GIANT shifted out at the start and made contact with CRAIG'S STAR.
A short distance later, MIGHTY GIANT became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by BEAUTY ICON which was checked when crowded for room outside PRIVATE ROCKET which shifted out abruptly on jumping.
THE DRIVE shifted in at the start and inconvenienced KIRAM.
MONEY BACK shifted out on jumping and bumped the hindquarters of EVEN KEEL, causing that horse to become unbalanced and for MONEY BACK to lose ground.
HANG'S DECISION was crowded for room on jumping between PICKEN and AMAZING CHOCOLATE (Apprentice C Wong), both of which shifted ground.
AMAZING CHOCOLATE then lost ground when crowded for room between HANG'S DECISION which raced tight inside PICKEN and FEARLESS FIRE which got its head on the side and shifted out.
After the race, Apprentice C Wong reported that he was instructed to take up a forward position on AMAZING CHOCOLATE, however, as a result of being crowded for room at the start, AMAZING CHOCOLATE was required to be ridden towards the rear of the field.
He added having to race back in the field when up in grade resulted in AMAZING CHOCOLATE not finishing off the race as strongly as had been anticipated.
A veterinary inspection of AMAZING CHOCOLATE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
From wide barriers, HANG'S DECISION and MONGOLIAN LEGEND were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of B Shinn (CRAIG'S STAR), 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit.
M Chadwick (FEARLESS FIRE) stated that his mount commenced to travel very keenly after the 1000 Metres and shifted out when being checked away from the heels of EVEN KEEL.
He said after this FEARLESS FIRE continued to prove very difficult to settle when racing without cover and, despite his efforts, he was unable to restrain the horse to resume its position with cover behind EVEN KEEL.
MIGHTY GIANT and PRIVATE ROCKET were sent for sampling.
GENERAL:

11 March 2020 Happy Valley Racemeeting - Race 8 (490) The Stewards today questioned Mr J Moore, the trainer of GAYSON, regarding the riding tactics adopted on that horse in this race.
Mr Moore stated that he was aware that GAYSON had raced well when ridden in a forward position prior to being imported into Hong Kong.
He said it was therefore felt that this race provided GAYSON with the opportunity to obtain a forward position due to the extended run to the first turn.
He said he therefore instructed K C Leung to take up a forward position and it was hoped that the horse may be able to obtain a position just behind the leaders.
He added it is his intention to have GAYSON ridden in a forward position in its future starts if possible.

Additional Veterinary Reports from Happy Valley Racemeeting on 11 March 2020 Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of GALAXY RACER, BREAK RECORD, WINNERS BROTHER, GENERAL TRUMP, MR PICASSO, DESTINE JEWELLERY, DOR DOR, CHARITY WINGS, STAR MAJESTIC, GOLDEN GLORY, E MASTER, VICTORY MASTERY, SPEED VISION, VICTORY POWER, VILLA FIONN, EVERYONE'S ELITE, MASSIVE POCKET, DIAMOND BRILLIANT, NABOO STAR, BLASTOISE and HOLY HEART revealed no apparent abnormality.

Racing Laboratory tests of GREAT SON, FARM BUMPER, AURORA STEED, GALA NIGHT, DIONYSUS COLLIN, CLASSIC POSH, MASTER ALBERT, AFTER ME, TANGMERE, METHANE, MEHBOOB, SHAMPORT, WOOD ON FIRE, JOLLY HONOUR, SOLAR WAI WAI, SURREALISM, FLASH FAMOUS, OWNERS' STAR, THIS IS CLASS and GREEN REIGN (4.3.20) proved negative.

Prohibitive favourite Mighty Giant coasted home much the best after getting his own way in front for a third win from six starts despite a rise in class. Private Rocket stayed on well for second after being pocked for a run early straight following a box-seat run but was no match for the winner. He appears from his past two runs over this trip to be back on his A-game. Beauty Icon ran on a non-threatening third after peeling off the fence at the 200m for a clear run following a rail run better than midfield. Picken came from midfield to fill the frame. It was another honest effort but he has little upside off his current mark. Punted late Craig's Star faded last 100m out tracking the winner in the run. His honesty keeps him in a narrow rating band but he is on his mark. Hello Beauty held his ground after a deep run without cover near the speed from a wide gate. Money Back made some ground without ever looking a chance from near the back.
