Racing Incident Report
Race Six: (280) - TING KAU HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000Meters
From the outside barrier, THIS IS CHARISMA was steadied and shifted across behind runners soon after the start.
After travelling a short distance, BEST SMILE became unbalanced in its action, shifted out and inconvenienced TRAVEL DATUK.
Making the first turn approaching the 500 Metres, THE ABRAXAS (J Moreira) shifted in and made contact with ISLAND WINNER which got its head up and became unbalanced when racing near the heels of G UNIT which at that stage was steadied away from the heels of GOUTEN OF GARO.
J Moreira was advised to exercise more care.
At the 450 Metres, MEHBOOB shifted out around the heels of ISLAND WINNER to improve and in doing so made contact with DR PROACTIVE which was taken wider.
When placed under pressure approaching the 250 Metres, THE ABRAXAS shifted in, resulting in BEST SMILE, which had commenced to weaken, shifting in away from that horse and becoming unbalanced.
J Moreira was advised to ensure that in similar circumstances he straightens his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.
THE ABRAXAS travelled wide and without cover throughout the event.
T H So was questioned regarding his riding of JOY AVENUE after the 150 Metres.
T H So stated that when placed under pressure approaching the 150 Metres, JOY AVENUE, which was relatively inexperienced, tended to race greenly and shifted out rather abruptly.
He said as the horse's momentum was shifting outwards, he felt that there was an opportunity to allow the horse to continue to shift out and obtain an available run between TRAVEL DATUK and THIS IS CHARISMA.
He said however that after shifting in to a position behind TRAVEL DATUK, he then realized that the run between TRAVEL DATUK and THIS IS CHARISMA was no longer available due to THIS IS CHARISMA shifting in, therefore he switched JOY AVENUE back to the inside of TRAVEL DATUK and placed the horse under pressure once again.
T H So was advised that his riding of JOY AVENUE at this stage of the race had come under notice and that he should have continued to improve to the inside of TRAVEL DATUK when a run was available at all stages to do so.
After the race, Z Purton stated that after showing good early pace to race in a forward position, BEST SMILE came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then after being hampered by THE ABRAXAS approaching the 250 Metres, the horse gave ground quickly.
He said as BEST SMILE was out of contention by the 150 Metres, he eased it down over the concluding stages.
A veterinary inspection of BEST SMILE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
THE ABRAXAS, G UNIT and MEHBOOB were sent for sampling.

G Unit got up near the 100m for the win after a dream run in the box-seat. It was his second win from his past three starts following a switch to the Valley and he can hold his own in Class Three carrying a light weight. Mehboob came on nicely for second after pulling off the fence approaching the final bend following a midfield run. Sensationally-backed Island Winner stayed on well for a placing after making his run one-off the fence better than midfield. He was able to gain confidence from a Class Five win. Dr Proactive ran on steadily travelling one off worse than midfield to just miss a placing. Aurora Steed ran on well without menacing after a patient ride fourth from the rear. He's naturally coming to hand. The Abraxas was yielding ground 100m out after a prominent run without cover. Specked late Gouten Of Garo was stopping 100m out after emerging with the lead 700m out from a wide gate. He's not good enough in this grade.
