Waldorf came from a distant last near the inside to take control 60m out to continue his amazing form this season over this Valley trip. Well-backed Mighty Maverick finished nicely two from the right after settling one off in midfield to grab second 50m out. It was another solid effort from a good gate for a change. Mr Genuine closed well after travelling third from the back to add some value to the tierce. He has been disappointing this campaign but is well-rated off his current mark. First Responder grudgingly gave way after stalking the leader Very Rich Man. He's naturally coming around. Jolly Convergence held his ground travelling better than midfield. He ran okay but is likely on his mark following success in two of three previous runs. Private Rocket ran on reasonably well after travelling three deep one from the back. He's made a nice impression in his two starts and will be winning his share of races with a bit more time to acclimatise.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (702) - TAN SHAN RIVER HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

BREEDERS' STAR began awkwardly.

COBY OPPA began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of CONFUCIUS DAY which became unbalanced.

After this, COBY OPPA was ridden along for some distance in order to obtain a more forward position.

Shortly after the start, WALDORF was crowded for room between GINTOKI and FIRST RESPONDER, both of which shifted ground.

From wide barriers, WALDORF and PRIVATE ROCKET were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

M Chadwick (JOLLY CONVERGENCE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of MIGHTY MAVERICK, causing that horse to be taken in onto BREEDERS' STAR, causing both MIGHTY MAVERICK and BREEDERS' STAR to be unnecessarily crowded for room and to be hampered.

M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 12 June 2019 and to expire on Monday, 17 June 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Chadwick's good race riding record.

Passing the 1000 Metres, CONFUCIUS DAY was momentarily steadied away from the heels of POWERMAX which shifted in.

Throughout the race, POWERMAX and GINTOKI travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, it was reported that JOLLY CONVERGENCE had sustained a minor wound to the outside of the right hind fetlock.

A veterinary inspection of BREEDERS' STAR and COBY OPPA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

FIRST RESPONDER, WALDORF and MIGHTY MAVERICK were sent for sampling.

Trainer A T Millard was fined the sum of $5,000 for breaching the Track Work Regulations as a result of GOLD VELVET (V400) wearing the incorrect saddle cloth number during track work on Monday, 27 May 2019.

GOLD VELVET worked wearing saddle cloth number V225, the allocated saddle cloth for STRATHCLYDE.

Mr W K Ho, stables assistant allocated to Mr Millard's stable, was advised that a report would be forwarded to Stables Management in respect of his involvement in this matter.

Racing Laboratory tests of RICHCITY FORTUNE, BIG BULLY, VALIANT DREAM, MARVELOUS WORLD, SUPER JUNIOR, DIAMOND BRILLIANT, GLITTERING ARMOUR, BIG PARTY, HIGHLAND FORTUNE, LONDON HALL, GOOD DAYS, VICTORY POWER, GRACIOUS RYDER, THE CREATETH, FOLLOW ME, SUPER WISE, EVERYONE'S JOY, HIGH VOLATILITY, INVINCIBLE MISSILE, UNCLE STEVE, CORDYCEPS, RED WARRIOR and CHAMPION'S WAY (18.5.19) proved negative.
