Racing Incident Report
Race Nine: (510) - DESIGNS ON ROME HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1200Meters
TAKING AIM began only fairly and then was left racing wide and without cover after the 900 Metres.
Shortly after the start, GUNNISON and SHAMAL were crowded for room inside CALIFORNIA FORTUNE which shifted in.
Also shortly after the start, SUPER FLUKE was awkwardly placed outside FORTUNE BO BO which shifted out after being bumped on the hindquarters by SUPER FLUKE.
From the outside barrier, DRAGON GENERAL was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After being ridden along in the early stages to cross runners to its inside, PABLOSKY proved difficult to settle and got its head up when being steadied after the 1000 Metres.
Near the 550 Metres, MARVEL TRIBE raced close to the heels of CALIFORNIA FORTUNE.
Rounding the Home Turn.
FORTUNE BO BO got its head on the side and lay out, resulting in SHAMAL being able to improve its position to the inside of FORTUNE BO BO.
GUNNISON had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 200 Metres.
Near the 200 Metres, FORTUNE BO BO, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied away from the heels of PABLOSKY when crowded for room between that horse which was taken in by CALIFORNIA FORTUNE and GUNNISON which shifted to the outside of SHAMAL to improve.
Near the 75 Metres, PERPETUAL JOYANCE momentarily raced tight inside PENANG HALL which was taken in by KEY WITNESS.
Over the final 50 Metres, GUNNISON was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CALIFORNIA FORTUNE (Z Purton) which shifted in under pressure.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that GUNNISON had not established running to the inside of CALIFORNIA FORTUNE, no further action was taken, however, Z Purton was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Because of this, GUNNISON was not able to be tested over the concluding stags.
After the race, K C Leung stated that PENANG HALL did not feel comfortable in its action in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of PENANG HALL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Before being allowed to race again, PENANG HALL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of PERPETUAL JOYANCE and TAKING AIM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GUNNISON, SUPER FLUKE and CALIFORNIA FORTUNE were sent for sampling.

Super Fluke continued his fantastic season by mowing down California Fortune in shadows of the post following a patient ride fourth from the rear to notch a fifth win from eight starts. He'll remain in the class off a big weight but should remain competitive. California Fortune was touched off late after working to the front 200m out following a oneout, one-back run. It was good run in defeat and he'll be winning again shortly. Dragon General came on strongly down the outside after settling last to inject some value into the tierce. He appears from his past two starts to be near a bottom. Favourite Gunnison didn't have much room along the inside over the last 200m when trying to improve from midfield. He should have finished closer. Marvel Tribe came up flat in the last 100m when looming at least a place chance 200m out following a one-off run in midfield. He's had a good campaign but may be near his mark.
