Racing Incident Report
Race One: (502) - SUPER SATIN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1600Meters
DASHING DART shifted out at the start and bumped SPORTS MASTER.
VIVA COUNCIL was bumped on jumping by LET US WIN which was taken in by HINYUEN SWIFTNESS.
RED ELYSEES began awkwardly.
From wide barriers, TOP SCORE, RED ELYSEES and DESMIOS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 1500 Metres, CITY LEGEND was steadied away from the heels of CHARITY WINGS which got its head on the side and shifted out away from the heels of SPORTS MASTER which shifted out.
Approaching and passing the 1100 Metres, DASHING DART travelled keenly.
When the pace slackened approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, a number of runners commenced to prove very difficult to settle, in particular CITY LEGEND, LET US WIN and ENORMOUS HONOUR.
K Teetan (ELECTRIC LIGHTNING) and M Chadwick (VIVA COUNCIL) were warned against the practice of slowing the pace of the race such that other runners do not have time to adjust to the alteration in tempo.
Passing the 1000 Metres, NAMJONG PLUS got its head up when proving very difficult to settle and shifted out abruptly away from the heels of CITY LEGEND, resulting in DESMIOS, which was racing wide and without cover, being bumped and taken wider.
Approaching the 900 Metres, DESMIOS was then allowed to improve into a more forward position but continued to race wide and without cover.
NAMJONG PLUS lost its left hind plate near the 900 Metres.
Passing the 900 Metres, NAMJONG PLUS shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of CHARITY WINGS.
For some distance passing the 900 Metres, CITY LEGEND continued to prove difficult to settle when awkwardly placed behind CHARITY WINGS.
After the 900 Metres, RED ELYSEES was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 700 Metres, SPORTS MASTER and DESMIOS bumped as SPORTS MASTER attempted to shift to the outside of VIVA COUNCIL as DESMIOS was improving around the outside of that horse.
Also passing the 700 Metres, CITY LEGEND and ENORMOUS HONOUR raced tight.
VIVA COUNCIL and TOP SCORE lay out rounding the Home Turn.
Passing the 50 Metres, DASHING DART shifted out away from SMART CHARADE, resulting in VIVA COUNCIL being inconvenienced close to the finishing line.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of SMART CHARADE, Trainer W Y So stated that prior to its last start on the All Weather surface, SMART CHARADE had been racing competitively without being placed.
He said he considered that the horse would be improved by a step-up in distance and for that reason he expected it would show improvement today, however, he did not anticipate that it would win the race.
He said whilst he considered SMART CHARADE would be better suited over more distance than that of today's race, nonetheless he still believed that the increase in distance to 1600 Metres and a return to the turf surface contributed to the horse's improved showing.
After the race, D Oliver stated that it was intended for LET US WIN to be ridden in a forward position, however, despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, LET US WIN failed to show any early speed.
He said when racing further back in the field than had been intended, LET US WIN was not suited when the tempo of the race slackened in the middle stages and then after being placed under pressure in the Straight did not respond to his riding and was disappointing.
A veterinary inspection of LET US WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

NAMJONG PLUS, SMART CHARADE and DASHING DART were sent for sampling.

Smart Charade came on very well following a rail run in midfield to win going away 50m out for an upset win at his sixth start. He flashed potential in two earlier runs and the step to a mile back on the turf was the right ingredient and he'll get a further trip as well. Dashing Dart worked to the front 200m out following a dream run and found one better in the end. He relished a return to the Sha Tin 1,600m. Electric Lightning kept on gamely after clearing to the lead from a wide gate at the 1,200m to just hold Red Elysees for third. He's capable but has taken his time finding his feet this term. Red Elysees closed off well after travelling deep and fifth from the rear. He's racing honestly without winning and can pop up at any time. Post-time favourite Namjong Plus ran on steadily after covering ground beyond midfield to finish a few strides short of placing. He continues to race well but might need a stronger rider. Viva Council grudgingly gave way after chasing the leader.
