Racing Incident Report
Race One: (707)-MOUNT CAMERON HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Metres
SHINING CHAMPION was withdrawn on 6.6.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (restricted action) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter KING OF SMARTS (T H So).LETSGOFREE began only fairly.
GENTRY and GLORY STAR bumped on jumping.
MIGHTY WONGCHOY began only fairly and then, despite being vigorously ridden along, failed to muster speed.
KING OF SMARTS began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping, resulting in NO LAUGHING MATTER being crowded for room inside UNIQUE JOYFUL which became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by NO LAUGHING MATTER.
O Doleuze (INVISIBLE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of UNIQUE JOYFUL, resulting in that horse being taken in onto KING OF SMARTS which lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked.
O Doleuze was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 12 July 2017 and to expire on Monday, 17 July 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
In addition, O Doleuze was fined $30,000.
T H So was spoken to regarding the standard of the evidence he provided at this inquiry.
Near the 1050 Metres, WINNINGLI got its head on the side, shifted in and bumped CARRY TO WIN, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
WINNINGLI then shifted out and inconvenienced LUCKY FRIENDS.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, INVISIBLE, which was improving around GLORY STAR, was bumped by that horses as GLORY STAR shifted to the outside of LUCKY FRIENDS.
Near the 550 Metres, KING OF SMARTS was steadied after improving into tight running inside LETSGOFREE which at this time raced tight inside GENTRY.
Passing the 450 Metres, GLORY STAR momentarily raced in restricted room between PERFECT TIMING and LUCKY FRIENDS which was giving ground.
Passing the 400 Metres, MIGHTY WONGCHOY was shifted to the inside of LUCKY FRIENDS after being awkwardly placed behind that horse which continued to give ground.
KING OF SMARTS was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Approaching the 250 Metres, NO LAUGHING MATTER got its head on the side, shifted in and bumped LETSGOFREE.
After this, NO LAUGHING MATTER was shifted out away from the heels of GENTRY to obtain clear running.
NO LAUGHING MATTER continued to lay in under pressure for the remainder of the race.
Throughout the race, LUCKY FRIENDS travelled wide and without cover and gave ground in the Straight to finish tailed out.
The performance of LUCKY FRIENDS was considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY FRIENDS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, J Moreira was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of GLORY STAR which gave ground in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of GLORY STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
LETSGOFREE, GENTRY and NO LAUGHING MATTER were sent for sampling.

Gentry quickened nicely after a one-off run in midfield to win going away 100m out. He was a Class Four horse in Class Five. He appears to have put it all together and might be able to get away with another in a higher class. No Laughing Matter closed off nicely after travelling third from the back to just take second ahead of Perfect Timing. He was suited by the pace but does appear to have improved second start following a stable change. Perfect Timing took off 600m out from the rear of the field and finished well down the outside to make it tight for second. The swift pace and claimer's allowance helped with his improved run. Early favourite Unique Joyful hit the front 250m out after travelling effectively one-out, one-back and peaked on his run 100m out. He tends to be more effective at Sha Tin. Letsgofree got shuffled back a bit coming to the final bend following a box-seat run but only plodded on one-paced carrying a big weight when asked for an effort. He had no excuse and might require a claimer's allowance. Winningli didn't fade all that badly after reclaiming the front 900m out despite a strong pace. He's limited but seems to perform best over this Valley trip. Glory Star was eased down after being posted deep without cover the entire trip travelling ahead of midfield.
