Radiant Steed assumed the lead 680m out after prompting the pace and kept on gamely to just get home on top for a first win at his 12th start and initial run on the dirt. He had put the writing on the wall in two of three earlier runs on the turf and should remain competitive in the grade off a big weight. Goal For Gold was unlucky not to have gotten up for the win when failing to gain a run until the 200m after a patient ride second from the rear. He can win if he remains in the grade. I'm The Won For U slipped through along the fence to challenge for the lead entering the straight following a midfield run and just failed. He nearly added to last-start win following a move to a tongue-tie and nose band and he remains a live chance when he next steps out. Super Euro Star peaked on his run 100m out following a prominent run. He has shown progress in his past three on both surfaces but prefer him down in grade. Favourite Multigogo lost ground to around midfield coming to the final bend after being headed for the lead passing the 700m but found a second wind and was making a steady bid late. He's still a work in progress but will be winning shortly preferably on the turf. Great Wisdom was detached from the field after a slow break but made good ground late in an improved run on the surface.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (430)-NGA TSIN WAI HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Metres

On entering the track, RADIANT STEED was reported to have made contact with a rail.

RADIANT STEED was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the barriers who reported that the horse was suitable to race.

GREAT WISDOM was slow to begin.

MULTIGOGO shifted out abruptly at the start despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in BOND ELEGANCE and GENEROUS BOBO bumping heavily when crowded for room inside FORTUNE BROTHERS which also became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by GENEROUS BOBO.

Passing the 800 Metres, GENEROUS BOBO was steadied when BOND ELEGANCE was taken out by SUPER EURO STAR.

Making the turn approaching the 700 Metres, BOND ELEGANCE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of RESPECT.

Approaching the 600 Metres, RADIANT STEED commenced to hang out, resulting in MULTIGOGO and RESPECT being hampered when taken wider.

BOND ELEGANCE, which was following RESPECT, was checked away from the heels of that horse passing the 600 Metres.

RADIANT STEED continued to hang out badly until after the 500 Metres.

The racing manners of RADIANT STEED were considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, RADIANT STEED will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial around a bend.

M L Yeung (SUPER EURO STAR) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 500 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of GENEROUS BOBO, causing that horse to be checked and to blunder badly.

M L Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 1 March 2017 and to expire on Monday, 6 March 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In addition, M L Yeung was fined $7,500.

When SUPER EURO STAR shifted to the outside of the heels of RADIANT STEED approaching the Home Turn, MULTIGOGO was crowded onto the hindquarters of RESPECT which became unbalanced.

GOAL FOR GOLD was badly held up for clear running from near the 300 Metres until approaching the 150 Metres at which time GOAL FOR GOLD shifted out from behind RADIANT STEED and bumped SUPER EURO STAR.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GREAT WISDOM was found to have a bleeding quarter crack to the inside of its left hind hoof.

Before being allowed to race again, GREAT WISDOM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on GOAL FOR GOLD at the request of Trainer P O'Sullivan.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, GOAL FOR GOLD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of BOND ELEGANCE, GENEROUS BOBO, MULTIGOGO and RESPECT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

MULTIGOGO, RADIANT STEED and GOAL FOR GOLD were sent for sampling.
