Recap by phillip woo

Blizzard got his group win after coming from last in a genuinely run race to take control 200m out. It was his eighth win from 21 starts and but he'll be running out of favourable races in the future over the 1,400m. Dashing Fellow gamely held on for second after working to find the front 1,100m out following a sluggish break, then pressure from Racing Supernova 700m out. It was a good effort in a swiftly run race and he's always a chance over this trip. Joyful Trinity made ground near the inside after travelling second from the rear to finish a non-threatening. The weight anchored him. Contentment was held up behind the leaders until the 150m following a prominent run and should have gone closer. Racing Supernova weakened after attacking the leader 700m out after chasing the speed one off in third early on. He's finding things much harder following a win three back over the 1,400m and a drop back in distance in a Class One might suit better. Beauty Flame and Sun Jewellery are shadows of their former self this term.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (304)-THE CHINESE CLUB CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Group Three - 1400Metres

MR BOGART was withdrawn on 29.12.16 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore).

Before being allowed to race again, MR BOGART will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

DASHING FELLOW, which was fractious in the barriers, began only fairly and then was ridden along in the early stages to obtain the lead.

Shortly after the start, JOYFUL TRINITY raced in restricted room between RACING SUPERNOVA and BEAUTY FLAME.

After being crossed by DASHING FELLOW in the early stages, BEAUTY FLAME shifted out from behind that horse, resulting in RACING SUPERNOVA being taken into a three wide position without cover near the 900 Metres.

RACING SUPERNOVA was then allowed to stride forward to race outside the lead after the 700 Metres.

Rounding the Home Turn, SUN JEWELLERY was taken wider by BEAUTY FLAME which, when shifting to the outside of RACING SUPERNOVA, got its head on the side and shifted out further.

Passing the 350 Metres, CONTENTMENT was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of RACING SUPERNOVA which shifted in.

Approaching the 300 Metres, JOYFUL TRINITY raced in restricted room inside DASHING FELLOW when improving into tight running inside that horse.

Passing the 200 Metres, CONTENTMENT was hampered when crowded for room between RACING SUPERNOVA and DASHING FELLOW (A Badel) which shifted out under pressure.

A Badel was advised to exercise more care.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SUN JEWELLERY, N Callan stated that he was satisfied with the manner in which his mount travelled in the early and middle stages and at the entrance to the Straight he expected SUN JEWELLERY to finish off the race well.

He said SUN JEWELLERY initially quickened satisfactorily, however, after the 300 Metres the horse commenced to give ground and its action deteriorated.

He said he continued to ride the horse along until well after the 200 Metres, however, SUN JEWELLERY continued to give ground and as the horse did not feel comfortable in its action, he eased it down over the final 150 Metres.

He added SUN JEWELLERY trotted back soundly after the race, however, he detected the horse to be making a slight abnormal breathing noise.

A veterinary inspection of SUN JEWELLERY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, SUN JEWELLERY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, it was reported that BEAUTY FLAME was lame in its right front leg.

Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY FLAME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

BLIZZARD and DASHING FELLOW were sent for sampling.
