Recap by phillip woo

Carrying surprise market support, Mutual Joy made his move rounding the final bend following a box-seat run to hit the front 200m out and kept on gamely in a career performance with a rise in distance at his second outing in this class. It doesn't look a strong form race. Double Point rallied well to grab second after landing a one off spot travelling worse than midfield. He's not genuine. This Is Gladiator still managed to get up for a placing despite being short of room over the final 100m after travelling behind midfield along the fence. It was his best run to date. One to keep an eye on, if any, is Yeung Sing who was hampered at the start from a wide gate and left without cover 900m out sitting worse than midfield but was still coming on well at the end in a paceless race. Favourite Spicy Double wouldn't settle in the run in midfield and didn't have much left when asked to produce in the straight drive. He might be better off allowing him to find his feet at the back. Perfect Timing and Dashing Fortune were non-factors after showing no interest early on.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (132)-ISLAND HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Metres

DASHING FORTUNE was crowded for room on jumping between SPICY DOUBLE and PERFECT TIMING (S Clipperton) which shifted out.

As S Clipperton attempted to correct PERFECT TIMING, that horse continued to shift out abruptly, resulting in DASHING FORTUNE being severely checked and losing considerable ground.

SPICY DOUBLE was also hampered when bumped on the hindquarters by DASHING FORTUNE.

MASTER PINNACLE, which was racing to the outside of SPICY DOUBLE, was also hampered in consequence.

After this, PERFECT TIMING continued to run out abruptly and lost a considerable amount of ground.

As PERFECT TIMING had previously been barred for similar racing behaviour, that horse will be required to undergo a series of consecutive satisfactory barrier trials before being permitted to race again.

Shortly after the start, THIS IS GLADIATOR was steadied away from the heels of LAUGHING LORD which, after initially being taken out by MUTUAL JOY, then shifted out further away from that horse.

Approaching the 1300 Metres, SPICY DOUBLE proved very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of MUTUAL JOY which, when being steadied to obtain cover, also proved difficult to settle.

After this, SPICY DOUBLE continued to be awkwardly paced close to the heels of MUTUAL JOY for some distance.

Passing the 1100 Metres, BERNARD'S CHOICE (Apprentice K K Chiong) commenced to travel keenly and shifted out away from the heels of DOUBLE POINT.

YEUNG SING and MASTER PINNACLE, which were following BERNARD'S CHOICE, then improved to the inside of that horse approaching the 1000 Metres.

Then passing the 1000 Metres, BERNARD'S CHOICE shifted back in to resume its positon behind DOUBLE POINT which resulted in YEUNG SING and MASTER PINNACLE being crowded for room.

Apprentice Chiong was advised to be alert to her mounts shifting ground which provides the opportunity for horses to improve their position.

Passing the 900 Metres, YEUNG SING commenced to travel keenly and shifted out away from the heels of BERNARD'S CHOICE.

After this, YEUNG SING travelled wide and without cover.

S de Sousa (MUTUAL JOY) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 450 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of MI SAVVY BOY, resulting in that horse being checked when crowded for room inside LAUGHING LORD.

S de Sousa was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 6 November 2016 and to expire on Thursday, 10 November 2016 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

Approaching the 250 Metres, LAUGHING LORD shifted in and bumped MUTUAL JOY.

Passing the 200 Metres, SPICY DOUBLE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SHOW MISSION when improving into tight running inside that horse.

After the 200 Metres, THIS IS GLADIATOR was shifted out to obtain clear running and near the 100 Metres shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of DOUBLE POINT which became unbalanced.

Passing the 50 Metres, THIS IS GLADIATOR raced in restricted room between DOUBLE POINT and LAUGHING LORD, both of which shifted ground.

Then over the concluding stages, THIS IS GLADIATOR was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DOUBLE POINT.

After passing the 50 Metres, BERNARD'S CHOICE got its head on the side and lay in under pressure.

Over the concluding stages, SPICY DOUBLE raced with its head on the side and was inclined to lay out.

A veterinary inspection of MI SAVVY BOY and PERFECT TIMING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SPICY DOUBLE, MUTUAL JOY and DOUBLE POINT were sent for sampling.
