Recap by phillip woo
Sporting cheek pieces for the first time, Helene Super Star settled fourth along the rails, worked to the lead three deep at the 200m and just held on with a treble of runners breathing down his back in the shadows of the post. Dominant was quietly ridden one off the fence second from the rear, swung the final bend widest out and was closing the gap late to snatch second on the wire. Helene Happy Star settled one off in third behind the slow pace of Same World, straightened three deep and plugged on gamely to just nose out favourite Blazing Speed for a placing. Blazing Speed settled one off the rails in fifth, swung the final bend with two wider out and was plugging away to just miss a placing. Harbour Master was ridden cold from the widest gate, was short of room three deep upon straightening, dropped to the fence at the 200m and stayed on nicely thereafter to just finish out of the placings in his first run over the 2,400m. He would have made it very close with uninterrupted running. Mr Gnocchi wasn't up to the task over a route for the first time following a rail's run third from the rear following a stable change. Khaya stalked Same World in second, advanced to the front 600m out and was struggling at the 200m. Same World just doesn't get the trip.
